Sacrilege

My old Lodge Sportsman Hibachi at the mountain house is starting to rust out the bottom. I do not want to put an egg there because it could get damaged by anything from neighbor's dog to a bear and it is not easy to move into the barn. I would cry if one was damaged or stolen.
I've had and may still have an old Brinkman smoker but it requires a lot of work for a long cook.
The Lodge has done a good job of steaks if I will learn how to use it again. It does not work for smoking. I have done ribs on it.
Any idea for a lightweight, cheap charcoal cooker.
A Weber starts to cost almost as much as an Akorn and seems less useful.
Any suggestions.

Thanks

Bob

If you're handy, you can build your own Smokey Mountain smoker for less than $100.  It's a fun and easy build and is large enough to cook a ribs, butt, chicken, etc.  Search You Tube or google for a list of material. It's light weight and you can remove the pot and grill burgers, steaks, etc.  The You Tube video will get you started.

    Pictures of my build below.

Yep, Akorn Jr for me. 14" grid, will do a burger or a butt! About $150. I doubt if they still have 'em anywhere at this price, but Walmart had 'em marked down to $35 a couple of months ago. Love this cooker!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Thanks for suggestions. I thought it was cold here with temps in the thirties, but the forecast for the Tennessee house was 16. It will be springtime before I consider cooking outdoors there.
The Akorn is no longer on sale so there is no hurry to buy one now to sit until I head north. I have found some small Webers on line.
I like the Smokey Mountain Smoker, it would be appropriate in east Tennessee.
I am tired of winter and wish springtime would hurry up.
