Smobot Battery

During my first run of my Smobot, my battery pack worked great for about 10 minutes. After that, the Smobot turned off. Battery pack was 98%charged. I assume the battery turned off due to the low voltage pull from the Smobot. I plugged the usb plug into an outlet and it worked fine for the rest of the cook. Any recommendations for a battery pack that will not turn off will the smobot?

The thing I don't like about the battery that ships with the Smobot is that on/off switch on the side - it takes to little pressure to function. On more than one occasion I've needed to move the Smobot aside and accidentally turned off the power.
I use this battery instead as it has a power button on one end and needs to be really firmly pushed to power on/off:

I don’t think this is a smobot problem. I think it’s a battery problem. I’ve read about this but can’t find the thread it was discussed on. -
Thanks. My smobot didn’t ship with a battery. I think that was during the beta time period that they included the battery. I will go to amazon and check out your battery recommendation.HeavyG said:The thing I don't like about the battery that ships with the Smobot is that on/off switch on the side - it takes to little pressure to function. Sorry...I spoke with NO knowledge of what that unit came with for power.Jcrosson said:RRP said:Yuppers...return it for a replacement!

They also sent batteries with units purchased via their Kickstarter project.Jcrosson said:

If you happen to have/use any 18650 batteries you might consider one of these:

The circuitry in mine seems ok and has worked well with my Smobot the couple of times I've used it.

I do know there was an issue with the initial battery that was included with the Smobot for early backers, but there were issues with it that I believe are similar to what you describe. It's a shame, too, because the battery looked great with the logo and everything. Anyway, after they figured out what the issue was they included a different type of battery that eliminated the issue. I would be surprised if their website didn't include some info on the type of battery that will and won't work well with the Smobot. Either way, good luck.Stillwater, MN

I found that the Smobot labeled battery they originally included actually seemed to work fine. I used it once just to run the Smobot for a few hours and never saw that it created a problem. They may have just had a few batteries that had iffy quality control (not uncommon with many low end Chinese made products). But it was good of them to step up and ship a different battery with their Kickstarter units.StillH2OEgger said:I do know there was an issue with the initial battery that was included with the Smobot for early backers, but there were issues with it that I believe are similar to what you describe. Anyway, there is no shortage of battery packs to choose from. I have had "two thumbs up" experience with all the Anker brand products I've used but I do like that cheap 18650 shell as I prefer products with user replaceable batteries (and I have/use a lot of 18650 batteries).
