    fishlessman,
For what it's worth, saying taco or tacito is really no more descriptive that saying sandwich, so anything you do is okay. I think that pulled beef would be excellent!!![p]Also for what it's worth, here in Mexico:[p]taco = warmed (not fried)tortillas with whatever you want inside. These can be filled with a few small bites or stuffed to the gills.[p]taquito sometimes is the same as blandito and = a tortilla (always corn in my experience) that is fried briefly in oil but still soft; either folded or rolled over the filling.[p]flauta = a corn tortilla rolled over a filling and fried until crunchy.[p]Taquitos and flautas are generall one thing (meat and seasonings) and not too much (think small cigar).[p][p]

    Bobs,
ive got a very good place for takeout tacos near me that makes chopped beef, chicken, and pork tacos in the soft shells. much better than all the other places around with the tacobell type tacos. these taquitos ive not seen, and look simple enough to fry during commercials during football as snacks thruout the game. maybe even fry up a bunch and cover with cheese and bake til it melts, probably called something else, but pretty much all mexican food is good. they just tasted like they needed some pulled beef

fishlessman,[p]In the early 60's I worked at a place in Albuquerque that served what we called taquitos. As I recall, they were ground beef spiced like taco meat, rolled in a corn tortilla, pinned with a toothpick and deep fried. We served them with a dip similar to taco sauce. A little old lady would come in every week and make up the week's supply. She always brought the spices premixed so the owner couldn't steal her recipe. I would suggest mixing some ground meat with taco seasoning, roll in a corn tortilla and deep fry. Then start experimenting with the spice mixture as well as the type of meat.

fishlessman,[p]Forgot to add, the tortillas were smaller that normally served with a taco. (i.e. the name tacito, I suspect). I recall about a 3-4 inch diameter versus.

    BOBF,
Would that be Taco Sal's in the NE?

Jose',[p]No, it was Mac's on Menaul (I think). I am sure Mac passed on many years ago. As I recall, a taquito was not an epicurean delight. Just grab a few and a cherry coke to enjoy while cruising. Was in Albuquerque last month. Has changed a bit in the last 40 years.

  • fishlessman,
You can buy these at Sam's Club, at least here in NM, in either beef or chicken. I see no reason not to used pulled pork since some taco used shredded pork. One suggustion is to make some homemade salsa and use that as a dipping sauce. Also another idea is to make pork carnitas using a dutch oven on the egg. Both the taquitos and carnitas are eggcellent foodfare while watching a football game. Happy egging[p]Andres[p]Andres

Zunibbq,[p]I just saw them here (Slidell, LA) in the frozen food section at Winn Dixie. Both chicken and beef. Before today, I don't think I had even thought about a taquito in years. Looks like they are spreading in popularity.
