I've had a manual one for about 6 years ($20) that cuts the lid off of the can, no sharp edges! No prying/wedging the sharp top out. The top can be put back on to seal any unused stuff for a day or three. I think it is an OXO-GOOD GRIPS. And it stays clean.Hood Stars, Wrist Crowns and Obsession Dobs!

I think every kind of can opener, especially the electric ones have made it into our kitchen. I always make sure I have a decent hand crank one. Oxo makes a good one, you can get something decent for half that price as well. I have one I bought at the supermarket that's good, you just have to check to make sure they're not too loose.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

Haha - but no, they don't stay. I'm happy with the old school openers. I think we have one manual and one of those battery ones that cuts from the side so you can't drain anything. Great invention those.bgebrent said:

@Killit_and_Grillit's post on his grandmothers rolling pin collection has me thinking...THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -

This is what I have, but it's not an Oxo, it's a Rosle:berndcrisp said:I've had a manual one for about 6 years ($20) that cuts the lid off of the can, no sharp edges! I especially like the feature that you can pop the lid back on the can for a day or two (I live alone and that's handy for anything from beans to canned fruit). It does wear out eventually, I'm on my second one (20, 30 years?) but it also takes up half the drawer space that a common opener does. I'll gladly buy one more if I live that long.“I'll have what she's having."

I guess I should add that I do have a two-handled opener (and its an Oxo) that I use for one thing: 4-oz tomato paste cans. I open both ends, push one lid into the can until the other lid is just proud of the can, slide the second lid off sideways (so the paste stuck to it is scraped into the can), and then push all the paste out into the pot with the first lid. This gets 99.8% of the paste out of the can, and is much quicker than it sounds.

Thanks for all the feedback! Gonna have a look at the Rosie and Oxo openers.

Yet another plus for the OXO. Mine broke down after a couple of years, but when it worked, it worked better than any other I'd had, and was really easy to clean.

I don't give much thought to can openers but that may be because mine has never been a issue.
Here is what I use.
