BS Griddle

Xmas came early. Just got this today and started the seasoning process.. Not sure if this is done right or if it is. But I followed BS video on their website.
Cleaned griddle with soap and water, dried it and then Brought up to temp for 20 min on high. Added vegetable oil, spread around.. Waited for it to dry up and added more oil. Once dried, I turned off the griddle and let it cool down.
I noticed that when I was spreading the oil, this gooey stuff was coming up. Guessing it is baked on oil and my hand was to hard while spreading?
Do I need to start over? Wonder if this will have any effect on food taste?
Also, the oil leaking every is upsetting. Gott find a fix for this.
What do you think?

I'm lazy or I'd give you a link to a fix. It's basically JB Weld upside down pyramid to give the grease a place to drip from. Search for @blasting thread on the fix.

Do a search for seasoning instructions. I wrote a detailed post st one point.
Sounds like you used used too much oil. You want to slowly build up the seasoning with such a thin level you can’t see the oil and let it smoke while you paint it over and over with your oil in thin even sheetsXL, Small, Mini & Mini Max Green Egg, Shirley Fab Trailer, 6 gal and 2.5 gal Cajun Fryers, BlueStar 60" Range, 48" Lonestar Grillz Santa Maria, Alto Shaam 1200s, Gozney Dome, Gateway 55g Drum -
Don't sweat it. Someone will post that link on here somewhere. It's like a $7 fix. I did it with mine and it works great.theyolksonyou said:I'm lazy or I'd give you a link to a fix. Also I scrubbed it twice during the initial process to get that junk off. Kept it running til it didn't stink. Then cooked some bacon."Brought to you by bourbon, bacon, and a series of questionable life decisions."

Thx for the info. I went ahead and scrubbed the griddle as best as I could and reapplied the oil slowly and thinly. Looks like it took a lot better than the first go round.

Thoughts on this idea... Instead of JB weld or the aluminum adapter to redirect the oil into the holder, I was wondering if you could bend the lip of the griddle downward?
My friend has a 20ton hydraulic bender and it wouldn't be anything to bend this lip. Wonder if that would stop the oil from spewing every where.

Seasoned mine today. Didn't have that going on. But I'm glad I saw this. Will watch the videos and see if I was close to doing it right.Mt Elgin Ontario - just a Large.

little oil, high heat and repeat when the oil dries up.

I put a piece of wooden dowel in mine, or a piece of hanger wire. It gives the grease something to run down. Dead easy fix and it works well.

Congrats to the new blackstone owners. Ya'll are going to love it.
To keep the seasoning nice I'd recommend keeping it oiled. Before, after, even during a cook.
I like how they etched Blackstone into the back splash.Phoenix -
I used the metal part of a large Binder Clip, fits in the hole perfectly. I'm pretty sure I got the idea from here.O-Town, FL

Don't think I would take the chance that instead of bending, it might just snap right off. Especially when there are so many other options.EggHeadinFlorida said:Thoughts on this idea... I cooked a bunch of bacon this morning and saw what you were talking about. I just dropped an old Allen key into the hole for the grease to have something to run down as others have said. Worked perfectly. I'd try a piece of wire in the hole long before I tried to bend it.Mt Elgin Ontario - just a Large.

Not sure how deep my head was in mya$$- but that angle on the bottom is going the wrong way.
Guessing if your friend has a hydraulic press, he has a welder and grinder. -

After reading about cold rolled steel, it said it’s not really a good idea to bend it because when it is made it’s almost to the point the way I understood it of being brittle.
Here’s my fix for today. I’ll have to go by Lowe’s to get some JB Weld and see which idea I’ve been reading about is going to best work for me

I saw someone bend the ends of a cotter pin into a T, and drop it into the hole, diverting the drip down the eye of the pin. Slick, cheap trick. I do the beer can method, and chuck the can when it's full. My JB weld stalagtites kept falling off, but it is holding up fine at the problem corner of the 28"er. No mo greasy leg...

Where is your hole near the end of the drip edge?Focker said:I saw someone bend the ends of a cotter pin into a T, and drop it into the hole, diverting the drip down the eye of the pin. If anyone decides to do my jb weld fix, I'd suggest a good cleaning of the area with acetone first. I used high heat weld.
Fyi, the fix has lasted now a couple years, and hundreds of uses. It has not let loose. It's surprising this has not been addressed yet by BS. They already have the drip nub there - all they have to do is move it 1/2 inch!Phoenix -
The 28 BS doesn't have a hole.EggHeadinFlorida said:

I did the JB Weld high heat. Works great. Clean well and roughen with wire wheel. Mine has been on for well over a year with no problem.
