Missed Costco tonight so will hit it at 10am for a packer.
Have not used the FB300 or any controller for that matter before.
Is there anything tricky about the setup\computer or lighting that the book don't tell me about? Mainly quirks that we learn along the way is what I'm asking. And Android phone here so no app yet. Thanks in advance.

Close the top down almost completely. Light a fire in one spot, I prefer center to center back.
Attach probes, can wrap the line in aluminum foil if you want. I used to, but do not anymore. I just make sure they are shielded from direct burning lump.
Attach the fan and let everything stabilize for an hour or so. After you learn your unit you don't need to wait. Once the smoke is clear, you are good to throw your protein on.
I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Great advice above. I would also initial temp 30 degrees lower and bump it from there.
The FB does learn as it goes. My 2nd cook hit set temps better than my first.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
Thanks guys...I just finished getting it all set up (super easy). Still have a hour and a half before costco open...sure hope they have a prime packer in the cooler.

I let the lump burn about 15 minutes, and then clip the probe on grate, pinch the daisy wheel down to 1/8", slip the fan in the lower vent and slide shut. It's on "autopilot" after that, and usually open a beer and monitor temp from my phone. Takes about 15-20 minutes to hit set point, and then it's ready to cook. Life is good with the FB300. Almost feels like "cheating"!
