If you have a warranty, I'd turn in for a replacement and store the replacement until you've got to switch.
I wouldn't worry about cooking with it like that unless it's sitting on a wooden deck attached to your house. If so, I might be concerned about it cracking apart while I'm not watching it. -

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. Warranty covered it just fine.

Can you keep using the old base for years after it cracks like that? Or is that a sign that some morning I'll go out and find my brisket on the ground?
