OT - Amazon Echo Dot

I recently went ahead and got a couple of Echo Dots. Was more curious than I needed it. We do have hole house Wifi and the dots are already on it.
I am trying to hook up my bedroom TV and cable box so i can ask Alexa to turn them off before going to bed. (have trouble with the remote and lazy to get up and go physically do it)
What is my best option to accomplish this.
I have researched and there are a whole slew of things out there, including hubs and what not.

Just did the same thing. Also got some Sonos speakers I've always wanted. The voice control of Alexa is fun. No clue on your TV but I think @coomdaddy has it with Harmony.Lovin' my Large Egg since May 2012 (Richmond, VA) ... and makin' cookbooks at https://FamilyCookbookProject.com

Guys, thanks for your responses. Here I what I did to start off.
Got a pair of TP-Link mini plug in outlets for the wall where the TV and cable box are plugged in.
Then followed inst. to hook them up into Alexa, and guess what?
I can call Alexa and ask her to turn them off. works! 60$______________________________________________

@Aviator I have slowly accumulated a bunch of those TP plugs. Now I have a few zones in the house that automatically turn on and off in the a.m. and in the p.m. They are also good for the Christmas tree! "Tree on", "Tree off"
