VTR vs Turkey Cannon vs V-rack vs Other ???
I am confident that all of these approaches can produce fine results when properly utilized. My question is to see if any one of these tends to work 'extra-well' on the BGE. I will also use for regular whole chicken and ours are always Sanderson Farms which typically run over five (5) pounds. I have never used any of these 'beer-can' type devices but do have Tony Cacheres injection stuff and creole seasonings so can achieve some of the 'moisturizing' in that way if preferable. [p]The Turkey Canon was included because it seemed to better utilize the dome area of the BGE and not position the top of the 'bird' too high.[p]I will really appreciate having the benefit of your experiences ... good and bad.[p]Regards,

Tom B. (EggSport),[p]I've never used a Turkey Canon.... I googled it though, and all I'm going to say about what it looks like is, KINKY.[p]All kidding aside, I have used a V-Rack for Turkey and chicken with great results, as well as the big can of Foster's, the oil can size. That works great with a turkey, no contraption needed. The size of the can is sturdy enough to hold up a good size turkey.[p]The VTR/VCR works great if I am doing more than one chicken, then I can put 2-3 chickens upright over a drip pan on my LGE and I get the nice crispy skin on all of them.[p]Hope this helps![p]-Jill

mojopin,[p] This does help! The Foster's can is a great thought .... and I had not really evaluated the 'multi-chicken' scenario yet. [p]Many thanks for improving my accessory acquisition process.[p]Tom B (EggSport)

Tom B. (EggSport),
This spring I purchased from lowe's BBQ Grillware stainless steel self basting chicken roaster Item #142347. It is a vertical roaster with a perforated wok like area with holes around it and for a 4-5lb bird works great on the large indirect and a place to cook the veggies on the side. Will not fit my small and do not have a med to try. Retail around $20. Here is a link, but at $30 plus freight a little pricey. Check Lowes

Richard,[p] That looks like a 'quality' version with some nice additional features versus the 'beer-can' rod style. I'll see if my local Lowes has it or can get it.[p]Regards,
