Help! Water and moisture in the Egg!

Need your help! My mini max stays out in the elements. Has a ceramic cap that fits tight over a gasket, yet inside there is moisture and actually water evident on the cooking grid as well as inside the dome. Have actually had the daisy wheel rust some that was kept inside. Had to clean and now keep in my large BGE that sits next to the mini max. As is evident from the pictures, there is a gap between the lid and the base. I am guessing thats where the water is coming in. How do I adjust to close the gap? Which bolts or screws will do that? Any other thoughts? Thanks!

I'd say loosen your top band and let the dome drop down until it rests on the base.

Maybe the experts will be along shortly and give you their opinion.

+1 what @shtgunal3 said, though you may find since the M/M dome isn't all that heavy that sometimes forcing it down with help from someone else pressing down on it will help you. Personally I even used clamps in order to pull my Large dome down tightly.

Thanks guys for the help. I loosened the top band and definitly have a tighter fit. Will see after the next rain. Noticed gap in the gasket at back for first time which also could be culprit. See photo.

Found a piece of gasket , cut it, and filled in gap. We'll see. Again, thanks!

George, do you use a water pan when you do a long cook?

I agree with fishless. That would have to be some mighty intrepid rain to get in through the small gaps that you're finding.

@ronw9471..have not done long cook on mini max, but never use a water pan with the BGE at all.
@fishlessman...you may be right, however my large BGE sits right next to the mini max and never has this problem.

I really appreciate the input. Reason #1001 this forum is the best!

The older of my 2 Eggs gets a gap at the back. Took me quite some time to figure out the correction. On mine, the 2 small nuts on fastening the hinge assembly to the band on the side that is to my right tend to work loose. Doesn't take much, just a half turn or so keep the dome from slowly going out of line.

I turbo most everything I do and I am always tinkering with the bands on one of my LBGE's. It's the oldest one ( 5 notches in fire ring) and I replaced the bands with the spring hinged bands a couple of years ago. Occasionally the bottom band will work loose. I have tightened the bands to where the tangs for the bolts begin to bend.

I went ahead and ordered a cover. That should resolve any issue. Again, thanks.

Well, you aren't going to pass the 'dollar test' with that one... maybe $1.50?

I'd start there, with the adjustment thingies.

On mine, a dollar bill is just right in one area, but I need two half-dollars in another part, and a stack of four quarters in another. So it passes the dollar test all around, just with slight differences.
