Brisket

So my teenage son had his wisdom teeth removed earlier this week and was limited on his food consumption. He requested a brisket to recoup for his lack of protein intake. He should make that up rather well today.

Thank you. He didn't have to twist my arm on this cook.

Looks Great!!!! My favorite thing to cook on the Egg.   Nice color...do you wrap in butcher paper?

Excellent training program as validated by his request.  Says a whole lot about your ability to deliver great brisket.  Enjoy the cook and follow-on eats.

I haven't smoked a brisket in a long time.  That looks great!  I'm envious!

  • @lousubcap I'm just saying...you get your wisdom teeth taken out and you eat milkshakes for like a week.

    I remember it was miserable.

Then I thought, "brisket burnt ends could go in a blender"

I have never made burnt ends from a brisket...I see no reason to start now. He has had a very good recovery, much better than my experience.

Everything came together great. Sides included: squash casserole, mac/cheese an homemade fries. Peanut butter cake for dessert when the body recovers. Thanks for looking.

I didn't wrap at all, ran it naked except for FTC rest.

Words to live by for sure.  Many other options available.
Regarding the cook:  Way to bring it home.  Congrats across the board.

  • @dsrguns glad to hear he got back quick. I tried to drink a Route 44 Sonic drink out of a straw and sneak in a makeout session the day after my surgery...had dry sockets for 2 weeks! Priorities at 17 though.

I am doing my first (hopefully successful) run at burnt ends as we speak. My dad brought me a Kroger special marked down 3 1/2 lb brisket point (thanks, dad) so I figured that was the safest bet at any real edible solution.

@Killit_and_Grillit - if your dad can score straight up points then he is golden.  That is the best part of the brisket.  You should abandon the burnt ends plan (next time) and just take the point till the fat is rendered (likely somewhere around 210*F) and really does probe like buttah.  Odds are you will get the "feel" much sooner than 210*F but with the heavy fat content it does fine carrying on.  FWIW-

  • @lousubcap it was a point by definition ONLY.

The butcher did a hack job on a flat and threw a scrawny chopped up point in the Managers Special bin.

    It made me sad.

If it was a true true point we would be having an entirely different conversation.

Good luck with the "Point" you are cooking. Sounds like burnt ends would be the best route with the cut you have, still a nice gesture from dad for sure.
