Swatting gnats is about all you'll find to do in Unadilla.  When does he have the class?  November 3-4 is the Pig Jig - SE biggest BBQ cookoff.  It's a blast!

If you do decide to come and are around Atlanta let me know and we can break bread together.

Come on now.  Nobody is the same person on tv as off.  Look at Dr. Huxtable!?  I met Myron at a cook off once, well after turn in.  He was just standing there.  I don't like to pester anyone even resembling fame but the girls noticed him and he started talking to us.  Real nice, down to earth guy.  I was a bit surprised.

I have talked with some folks who know Myron and they say he is nothing like you see on tv. Humble in fact. And no, there is nothing to do in or around Unadilla. Maybe Andersonville and Plains if you are a history buff.

Well he is from just this side of Biloxi and you're talking about heading to the South so it had to go there.   Just consider it part of the southern charm you've heard about.

Hey Tim. I live 100 miles from Unadilla. The others are right. There isn't much  to do in that part of the state. I have thought about taking his class. I was just going to come back home every night though.

If you do take it please let me know. I want to meet you.

While I live in NJ now, I'm a Georgia boy from youth. Attending one of Myron's classes is on my bucket list. Love him or hate him, the man knows his craft.

I wouldn't care a a whit about sight seeing and adventure......I'd be there to absorb the Q wisdom and eat the results.

Read some reviews on his classes. He lays it all out in a fun, informing, and personal manner - no BBQ Pitmaster TV persona trash talk..and you will eat well. The classes are jam packed with things to learn. If you're there to sight see, save your money and don't use going to his class as a reason.

One day, I shall be in Unidilla and living a dream.

Is spitting off a train (or a damn train) something that's commonly known to be easy?  I think there are gaps in my childhood, I don't know stuff.
If you think about it, it depends which way your facing.   Two very different outcomes there.
Pretty deep thinking there for a grunt.

For those that don't want to travel to GA, MM builds his smokers right across the river from me in Waterford, CT. He hosts a cooking school there also, and there are two very large casinos (Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun) each within 10 miles. Plenty to do in the area.

I may may attend next year and write off the cost as processional instruction for the catering bidness.

On the drive from the airport check out Fresh Air BBQ in Jackson. It has been there since 1929. Be warned this is an old school joint with like 3 things on the menu and 1 type of sauce. Their sauce is vinegar based similar to Lexington style. Their pulled pork is made from fresh hams instead of shoulder.

I should also add it would require a little detour off the highway. It would add 15-20 to the trip.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

I've seen 'Fresh Air' on the Food Channel - that's what I'm talking about. I was just checking out their menu, Pulled Pork Sandwiches - $2.85, that's nuts. I'll take THREE! lol

See if you can track down Paula Deeen when you're in the south and slap her.  I'm sure she's done something offensive lately that just hasn't hit the news.

    @SoCalTim

There is nothing to do in Unadilla. You can go by and visit the Pig Jig fairgrounds, or go up to Centerville, Ga and purchase a Stumps smoker...

other than that...your are in BFE

    BUT..........

If you have the opportunity and like to cook all kinds of meat, take this class.

Best take away(s) from the class:

    1. When I took it...All the free beer you can drink..
    2. People you will meet.
    3. All the free beer you can drink..
    4. A bunch of great proteins to eat...A BUNCH!!!!
    5. Myron is actually a great individual
    6. All the free beer you can drink...
    7. Tips and tricks which are not mentioned in his books.

    Have:
XLBGE / Stumps Baby XL / Couple of Stokers (Gen 1 and Gen 3) / Blackstone 36 / Maxey 3x5 water pan hog cooker
    Had:
    LBGE / Lang 60D / Cookshack SM150 / Stumps Stretch / Stumps Baby

    Fat Willies BBQ
    Ola, Ga

I have thought about going and would want to see the whole hog prep.  I think the folks you would meet there would more than make up for being out in BFE....did I mention the free beer I read about??  Sounds to me like a grand weekend you will be telling stories about for years....

Tim, sounds to me like you should get together with them Texas boys who were talking about a North Carolina BBQ tour. You'd get to sample some great pit cooked barbecue, see what a Q joint is supposed to look like, probably get a look at some of the pits out back, hang out with some great folks (Texans and North Carolinians) and experience some southern hospitality.

    And
you wouldn't have to fork over $700 to listen to some ol' grit tell you that it's fine to start your briquettes with lighter fluid.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

If the free beer is still part of the program, this just moved well up the list.  And to toss that out on a Friday-pouring gasoline on a fire  =)
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

If you're heading South that way, stop at Exit 82 on I-75 and load up on sausages, rubs, and sauces at that Carroll's Country Store.  I haven't been disappointed with anything from there.

AMEN to that Nibble.....anybody traveling on I 75 needs to make a pit stop here!
to the OP....not stopping at Carroll's  while in Geogia would be similar to not stopping at a "In and Out Burger"  while visiting California...by the way what's the deal with Nancy pelosi...??

I wonder if spitting off a train is like puking from a car?  In college, I went on an overnight road trip around the state visiting friends that went to different schools and drinking.  I was sitting next to a fellow that had a lot to drink.  He informed the driver he had to puke.  The driver said we had to hurry to make the last bar for the night and suggested he puke out the window.  So he rolled down the window and while looking forward he hurled.  I wish cell phones with cameras were around back then.
Sorry to disagree , but I'm so grateful cell phone video didn't exist in the '70's!  If it did I may not have a clean record.
