I'm having trouble with the idea that the egg fell out of the nest and the base is what cracked.  Not the top.  Not the internals.  The base cracked, presumably with the top still attached by the bands.  It didn't shatter, it just cracked.

I think he's full of crap and trying to sell a part that cracked naturally and he replaced via warranty.

Those domes can endure a lot.  Every time I open my large, it takes me back to Butt Blast 17.  My dome takes about a 5-6' fall to the ground, and does not break.  Pretty sure JIC is conducting tests in the laboratory trying to figure that one out.

No abuse. Ceramic can fail. Especially if ANYTHING is done incorrectly in mixing or casting.
