Darian, my friend, you're gonna be the death of me! This afternoon, I made the 40 mile round trip to Mass just to buy a 2 pound package of eight Pearl 1/4 lb 7+" long natural casing beef franks. Closest place I know of. Never had a SRF dog, nor will I, but I'll bet Pearls are bettah.
$11.99 for 2 lbs.
I lucked out - the Deli guy said he just got 'em in! I haven't had one in over 4 years so I don't feel too guilty. Bought extra long split tops too. These are the dogs that @fishlessman, @stike and @Sundown have when they meet up at Fred's Franks in Wakefield.
As long as I'm killing myself, I think I'll make a batch of Pink's hot dog chili too. Never tried it before. Not sure which version of the recipe I'll use. The recipe the thread author typed is different from the one he linked.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Boarshead makes some pretty good dogs for store bought.

Actually that is exactly what I had for lunch today...a package I found in my freezer dated from 2 years ago. Since then I've found a local butcher shop (Alwan's in Peoria) which have better ones.Biggreenpharmacist said:Boarshead makes some pretty good dogs for store bought.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
I also like Boars Head hot dogs, the "viennas" that have a natural casing that "pops" lightly when you bite into them. They're a lot like my nostalgic favorite hot dogs, the Koegel Vienna from Flint, MI. They're a lot like the Boars Head, very mild, just really good quality meat in them. Oddly enough, my second favorite hot dog is totally different, the Hebrew National ones. All beef, much more garlicky, a very different taste, but I really like them.

Theo....I think that is what is great about the hot dog. Many different textures and flavor profiles....I will go on record and say that chicken franks....are not so good.Theophan said:I also like Boars Head hot dogs, the "viennas" that have a natural casing that "pops" lightly when you bite into them. I gotta say I've never tried chicken franks. And I won't buy Hillshire Farms kielbasa anymore because they mix turkey in them, now.northGAcock said:Theo....I think that is what is great about the hot dog. I have had some Aidell's meatballs that were chicken and they were really good, but they were pretty heavily seasoned. Dunno, just don't think I want even to try chicken franks.
But I get what you mean about the variety of really good hot dogs. I've had a bunch of different kinds, and liked most of them, different as they were from each other. -
Yo, Michael...remember when you gave me a raft of sh*t for posting this picture of 3 packs (24) Pearl's I ordered from them? Bet my shipping cost equal to or even less than your cost of driving 40 miles, wear and tear, etc etc etc!Carolina Q said:Darian, my friend, you're gonna be the death of me!
