Granite size for Table Nest

I've asked a good amount of questions recently for a table build and I appreciate the responses.
Final question.... what size should I use for a piece of granite for egg with a table nest to sit on? I'm thinking 20" but would that be too big?

Atlanta, GA

I'd make it the full depth of the table.

I think I would have it overhang the table by an inch or two....which will help protect the sides from water......if i understand the question.

Looking for width size for granite that the egg/table nest will sit on. Looked for large table nest measurements but can't find anywhere.

The feet on the nest stick out maybe 2-3" from the base. The minimum size would be 4-6" bigger than your egg base. You don't want the foot on the edge of the granite either so the recommendation is to go bigger.

My experience with the top was they cut it out at my house. In other words, the table top was measured and cut at the shop. When they arrived at the house, they measured the diameter of the egg at the point it would intersect with the granite top....based on the height of the egg. As you know the egg is tapered. Mine does not fit tight....it has about 1/8th of an inch between the egg and the table.

  • When they cut the hole in my granite slab for my table top I just used the piece they cut out and it works perfectly.

I had mine polished and use a piece on top of my table. You pay for the granite....might as well figure out how to best use it.

Yep. I also put diamond plate on the bottom shelf just for the sparks.

Any exact measurements out there? Here is the piece I am asking about as it relates to the correct width for a large table nest.

I bought a 20" piece of tile. Not granite but the same idea. It actually measures 19.5" on a side. It gives me a little over 2" around the base of the table nest. I actually have it offset so that I have very little overhang in back and most of the 4" in front of the bottom vent.
