Egg Nest Wheels
I know that this is a silly question for someone that has just bought an EGG, but.... Soon I'll be getting it off the concrete floor of my screened porch to the brick patio. I'm worried those little wheels will catch on something, like a brick groove. [p]Has anyone replaced the wheels that are on the large egg nest with larger ones?

FSUScotsman,
seen it done several times so yes it can be done - however whether you use the original casters or huge ones the safety hint is to always pull your egg toward you when you move it and never push it! Why? the BGE in a nest is top heavy and prone to topple over when the wheels hit an obstruction so if that happens you can catch it as it will fall toward you vs. away from you.

RRP,[p]OHHHHH!!!! Good Tip!!!!![p]I like this place as much as I do my cigar site!!!

FSUScotsman,
RRP already addressed your question, but if you end up going to Tractor Supply Company and getting some monster wheels, make sure to post up some pics for us. [p]Cheers,[p]Adrian

FSUScotsman, Yepper, ole Ron there sounds like he may have heard of or actually eggsperienced that type of situation. LOL. I'd fall up under one of my Eggs to save them in an instant. I couldn't imagine that slo-motion image of the Egg falling away from me.

Adrian B., I'd like to see a tank tread setup.

sigmore,[p]That would be awful. I've got a call in to my home owner's insurance agent to find out what it costs to bring my deductable down on the Egg with a rider. It can't be too much, after all, it's "just" a grill!! What they don't know won't hurt them.

FSUScotsman,[p]I'd suggest trying it on your pavers first. [p]I have my XL on a patio made of emnbossed 18x18 inch paving stones. Both the surface pattern and the stone-to-stone joints are about 3/8 wide by 1/4 deep and the stones aren't perfectly aligned where they join. It's bumpy![p]I was originally tempted to up-size the wheels but then found it totally not an issue - the egg is very stable and rolls easily over the bumps on the stock wheels. Just remember to pull it towards you holding about midway down on two of the nest's legs.[p]If you replace 'em - let us know how it works out and post some pics![p]Beers - John

FSUScotsman, Someone had a picture here of some wheels about three inches wide and about two inches in diameter. Looked like some casters for a bed. I checked around and what I could find were a little pricey.[p]I move four Eggs in and out of our cook trailer and across various surfaces from dirt to asphalt on a regular basis. I pull them to me, go slow, and tell everyone else to stay away. So far have not had any problem. Iwiggle them to go over cracks and humps. Don't try moving after several adult beverages and go slow.[p]Good Egg movin' to you,

CanukQ,[p]I think you are correct, I'll give it a try. My pavers are small because they were orginally going to be the top of the concrete. Now they are going beyond the concrete I poured. I'm nuts!!!

FSUScotsman,
Ok, which site would that be??
Cheers, Bob

bobbyb,[p]That would be the most famous www.cigarweekly.com website!!! The most informative discussion website for cigars on the web. Actually, the off topic board there is where I discovered Big Green Eggs.

FSUScotsman,[p]I replaced my wheels with large casters, about 2.5" wide by 5" diameter, because my BGE is usually on grass. It made a night and day difference. My new casters had a 1/2" stem, which means I had to drill out the 3/8" holes in the nest, which was a pain. If you do it, get a caster with a 3/8" stem. You should take the egg out of the nest, obviosuly.[p]The downside is - if I do put it on (slightly) sloped concrete and forget to set the caster locks, it will run away from me in a big hurry. All in all, worth it for me.[p]Woody
-
Woody54,[p]That sounds like what I was looking for!!!
-
Woody54, where did you find the casters?[p]Thanks and Good Eggin'
