Food prep gloves?

Thanks Guys! I have some in the Amazon cart. I was looking for something to use during a camping trip so I don't have to run to the bath house every time I need to wash my hands. Plus they just seem to make sense when your dealing with large cuts of meat and rub. Thanks again.

@Jeffroe189 they will become like rubbers in a frat house, I'm telling ya. Freaking everywhere.
The other day I was in a hurry to go drop off my kid somewhere and threw on a different pair of pants.
I got to where I was going and found 4 pair of black nitrile gloves and a thermapen in the pockets."Brought to you by bourbon, bacon, and a series of questionable life decisions."

Get a size larger than you normally would use. Makes them a lot easier to put on.Jeffroe189 said:Thanks Guys! I have some in the Amazon cart. Same here.... Just order an extra box or two and toss $5 in the office pool for the next party. Got to get small gloves since my 12 yr old is wanting to get into the BBQ side of things. I'll take it! But she only gets root beer!

I only serve peanuts in a latex bowl.nolaegghead said:
There are around 3 million latex allergy reactions per year in the US. Very common, affect older people more than younger as the allergy develops with exposure. Google for more info. On the extreme edge of sensitivity, anaphylaxis can occur which is fatal without treatment.Brason said:
Why is that?nolaegghead said:Any way you roll, your glove should be at least 5 mil thick Nitrile. Never wear latex gloves if you're serving the general public.
I've worked in labs and SWMBO is a nurse and this allergy has pretty much eliminated latex from these fields. It's not that rare. Plus nitrile is superior as a glove, costs marginally more.

Am I lucky to be alive having never used gloves of any sort for food preparation? The thought just never crossed my mind.

It's great not having to wash constantly......just remove gloves and carry on. Genius!Eoin said:Am I lucky to be alive having never used gloves of any sort for food preparation? The thought just never crossed my mind.

I take you have never made atomic buffalo turds and had a need to pee while doing so. THAT will make you a glove believer!Eoin said:Am I lucky to be alive having never used gloves of any sort for food preparation? The thought just never crossed my mind.

I don't like using too many disposable things on principle.GATraveller said:

I have these from Sam's:

...and also these:

I like using the looser kind when I am not doing something that requires dexterity. They are cheaper and they are easy on and off.
I like to use vinyl form fitting kind when I am doing something like slicing brisket.
I don't think the gloves are necessary and more of a convenience item. I don't use them all the time. For general prep work in the kitchen I just wash my hands. They are great however if you are outside and don't have access to a sink. For example I will usually grab one one glove when I carry meat out to put it on the cooker. I use the gloved hand to move the meat to the cooker and then I can just take off the gloves and don't have to go back in to wash my hands.
I also like them for serving. For example slicing and serving cooked brisket. I could use tongs or carving fork and knife but it is just much easier to use one hand to hold the brisket in place and my guests aren't grossed out by my hairy hobbit hands touching their food.
Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -

Same ones I use - they are also great in my workshop when applying finishes. Also cleaning up after our puppy!SmokeyPitt said:I have these from Sam's:
