OT - Still a Grill

Fathers Day. Since it's just me and the wife mostly.
Its actually made better than I was expecting. Comes with cast iron grates. So that's not too bad.

    Congrats on the Acorn.

I though about getting one but went with an MM instead. I may add one someday as a specialty cooker like for baking bread or something.

Any mods needed out of the box? Some folks here have one of these, but haven't see many cooks posted yet.

Order the stone.  I just got my stone this week, they were out of them online for something like 6 months.

They really don't have any other accessories for the jr.  I haven't used the stone yet, but as a direct grill, it works really well.

One other tip, rain will definitely get into it and fill the ash pan.  You don't want that, so either store with the ashpan removed and inverted inside on the grill, or cover it or put in your garage.

have fun, I've been happy with mine.

  • This is my second cook. But I've just screwed around messing with the temps. I love the charcoal conservation. I believe I put too much in there.. I had chicken last week. It was good. Pork chops are on tonight.

Side note. I love the fact that I had it lit In 6 min.

Side note 2.  Ive heard of folks using a flower pot base as the diffuser.

I wanted a MM. BUT We're having a small child in November, so I opted for a cheaper version. As a point of concern. I estimate I will pay for this ($150) in a year in charcoal savings alone.

Maybe for his 5th bday I'll get him a MM. Should be prime for training at that point.
