I have the Woo for my XL, but no stone, and it works.

I can place the Woo on top of the plate setter legs up, slide a full pan under the top ring, and OVER the bottom ring for an air gap.......viola..taking full advantage of the plate setter area.

A full 1 inch or better above the felt line is available to me to choose with the Woo set on top of the plate setter, and a I have a good air gap on the drip pan.

Two levels available for me to cook raised direct without the plate setter.

No need for AR's or other contraptions.

Win / win...............no extra stones needed.

I use the KJ Classic set-up in my large egg and it works great.  I like it much better than using the plate setter which I think is very antiquated.  The split grill and heat deflector are awesome.

I think the AR and non big green egg components might ruin your warranty that's what babyback maniac said in a video
You are kidding I hope. They made the guy (Tom) who makes AR's and Woo's an Egg Dealer. Just can't see a warranty problem.

Your question was AR or Smoke - which comes first.  Since you are in an apartment, I'll make the jump that you don't have several other grills.  You are also used to an XL and going down 6" in size.  I own a Smoke, and recommend it, but in your case the AR would come first for me.

Personally, I'd get the XXL, build an apartment in it, then use the extra space for low and slows.  Although that seems like something scottie would say. With a seal of approval.
    So who's trolling who here?

Came here looking for insight and asked a legitimate question. Also I'm sorry you think I'm too young to own a green egg or two. Not exactly sure where you get off assuming my age in the first place.

It was the last name of the first person it was made for during prototype stage. At least that's my memory from forum days long ago, so it must be 100% accurate.

    No you wouldn't.
I acknowledge you tried to get the "Latin" handle "dorkus ignoramus", but see you had great success with your current one.

I order smoke and a thermopop today. So i already took care of that. Thankfully my wife is fully on board with diving head first back into the egg world.....

Getting $9/hr raise last month hasnt hurt my cause either.

Another woo lover here.  I have oval stone and bought the 2nd story extender grid and have loved every minute of using this set up.

Had only the platesetter for 6 years, and did the homemade setups for multiple levels over that time. Then I got the AR R&B combo last fall, with the extender and slides.  I love it. The ease is off the charts.  With that said, I still use the platesetter here and there, but if I never had it I would not miss it.

Short answer? I would have started with the AR.

It was named in honor of the guy who invented it, an egger and forum member, @WooDoggies. There was an interesting thread posted by @Star_TrEGGabout a recent Dizzy Fest where this was explained. I knew the naming story, but had never seen the guy. There are several nice pics, including this one, l-r @Chubby, Woo and @tjv if you're interested.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Case in point: inability to identify hyperbole.

I generally ignore you as you follow my posts around like you're stalking me and post (not sure about the age level, but seems like either a 13 year old or 75 year old) sophomoric comments.  It's not my job to keep you from being a dorkus ignoramus.  Just making the casual observation.  That is, this post, not the hyperbole.

Another vote for the A/R. I have the Platesetter and when it breaks I will go with the A/R.

For the large I would go with CGS stuff     but for the XL I like the placesetter/egg stone and raised grid system.

My vote, AR by a wide margin. Next a thermapen and then a thermapen smoke. Just got my smoke yesterday and can't believe the difference in quality over the Maverick and for about the same price.
