Top damper difficult to remove

The first couple of times I used my BGE, I let it cool before trying to remove the cast-iron damper that goes on the chimney. Both times the damper wouldn't come off without a great deal of difficulty. A significant amount of the fiber from the gasket around the neck of the chimney glued itself to the inside of the damper, and I had to scrape it out. Is this common? Any tips to prevent this happening in future? Thanks, fellow Eggheads!

Replacement for the daisy wheel. No reason to remove it and it looks super nice.

Yes^^^ it's fairly inexpensive and looks better. Allows you to cook in he rain, etc.

Daisy wheel-gasket growing pains. It will improve with time. That said, 2 of my 3 eggs have Smokeware caps.
