Gasket Replacement right out of the gate???

First cook on my new XL last night. Noticed smoke coming out around gasket on the hinge side. Should I be concerned or will this correct itself after a few cooks>>??

Is the lid installed correctly?  does it have overbite or under-bite?  The best way to test for a good seal is to put a dollar bill between the lid and base to see if it pulls out easily or not.  It just need to be adjusted.

Its not the gasket, it's the lid/hinge alignment. Fiddle with it a bit - I had mine leaking smoke out the back and then re-aligned everything and it's perfectly fine (XL)

Then it sounds like the lid needs adjusted or maybe the bolts needed tightened?  Check to make sure the bolts are tight first.  If they are you can adjust the lid buy removing the springs from the lid while it is down.  Then loosen the nuts near the hinge on the band, but don't take them all the way off.  Now move the lid to where you are equal all the way around.  When you are happy with it tighten the nuts on the band and reinstall the springs.

Now if the egg is holding temp where you want it, I wouldn't worry about it till the gap gets real big and you are having issues hold it a certain temp.

There are some other threads on here about adjusting the lid as well.  I wouldn't think your gasket is bad unless you did a really hot cook for a long time.

Well I got it done.... It was a little more involved than I thought but I finally figured it out.  Used HoustonEgger link for most of it but kept getting hung up after all was assembled with a continuing front under-bite.  Well the problem turned out for be the position and therefore spring tension when the lid closed. ( i.e.: the springs , in tension to the rear, with lid down pulls a bunch rearward on the dome. Correction was to loosen slightly the spring brackets and tap them rearward as far as they would go in their slots thereby taking tension off a bit with the lid closed. Worked like a charm. everything lines yo perfectly.  Thanks to everyone for their input... your " Smoking"
