i have XL BGE and have burned pizza crust! Would it help to build fire in back of egg, and keep pizza stone towards front?

I've never heard of anyone doing that. Tell us how you are doing pizza now. What components are in the egg, what spacers are you using for air gaps, how high up in the dome is your pie, what dough are you using, what dome temp? Someone will have an answer for you.
And, welcome to the forum! Where are you located?I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Need more details, stated above. Then we can help you fine tune your set-up.

If your pizza is burning, it's normally one of two reasons. Your crust is not made for high heat like the hand made stuff at a Pizzeria. Or your set up is not correct in your XL.
Most common problem is people burning the bottom of the crust before the rest of the pizza is properly cooked. We will run with that for now.
Why does the bottom of your crust burn first? Because your pizza stone is hotter than the temp in the dome of your Egg. This happens if you are not using an indirect barrier, or a piece that is to small, between your fire and your pizza stone. Or because the indirect piece is spaced to far from your pizza stone. A large gap between the 2 cause the hot air to roll around the first indirect pice and directly into the bottom of your pizza stone. This heats your pizza stone to a much higher temp than your Egg temp in the dome and your crust burns. The higher the temp you try and cook your pizza the more critical your set up becomes. You only need a 2-3 inches between the 2 stones.
The photos below were pizzas cooked at very high heat with no crust burning.
The heat flows around the the first barrier, past the pizza stone and into the dome. Not a large gap for the heat to run into the bottom of the pizza cooking stone. I was using and old gas stove cooking grate as the spacer. There was a pizza on the stone in the lower 2 photos. Getting higher in the dome also works better for me. And NO, you don't need that much heat to cook a nice pizza. And if you try and photograph a flame ball, use a friends camera.lol

In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -

It was made by Tom at Ceramic Grill Store. It's kind of an upgrade over the original Woo for the XL but was phased out after Tom introduced the XL Adj Rig.
It will raise and hold the BGE 24" grate at felt level or it can be "Flipped" over and it will raise a 22" cooking grid even a little higher. "Rumor" is, there might be a newer version in the works to take advantage of the newer taller dome of the XL. For pizzas on the XL, I use it help raise me higher in the dome.
