Smokeware SS Chimney fit

About year ago installed my Smokeware SS chimney on my large egg. It seems like installed the felt in the wrong area on the egg top because the base of the chimney spins around when it warms up. To get a tighter fit do you install the felt lower on the egg lid?

Mine spins too. Think it's normal.

If you placed it below the vents then it should not spin.

If it's not leaking smoke I would not mess with it until you need to replace gasket.

yeah i installed my felt on my egg about a 1/4" below the top of the egg so it would work with both the daisy wheel and Smokeware.

Tom see your dealer. They send an extra length of the nomex with every egg. Your dealer likely has a pile of them. Re install.

That's the problem.about all you can do is continue to cuss it, or buy a small piece of replacement gasket from SmokeWare or elsewhere and apply it near the base of the neck this time. Personally I attached my SmokeWare supplied gasket inside my SmokeWare male piece itself under the vents rather than on my BGE itself. Reason is I do burn offs time to time and I knew that could trash that gasket material if it was on the egg.

About how far down from the top of the egg would be a good place to put the Nomex? And does Goo Gone work good for removing the adhesive?

    Here you go!

As for the removal of the old gasket the Goo Be Gone may work, but that gasket adhesive has been fired in place and will probably need to be scraped well before the G-B-G starts to work like you are accustomed to it working. That make sense?

I didn't install the gasket that me with my SmokeWare cap. I just use the gasket that the dealer installed for the daisy wheel. No problems with the bottom spinning until it gets greased up pretty bad. Then I just hand clean it and then run it through the dishwasher and everything is back to normal.

This is probably what I've got to do. Mines greased up big time.

You sure it's just grease? Here's the throat piece of mine with the built up of baked on creosote. My dishwasher wouldn't phase that and I had to use Easy Off oven cleaner.

Man that's neat looking. Is that felt tapered? It looks thicker on the bottom.

Wow! True that. I've thought about doing a clean burn wito my throat piece in the egg. Is yours a different model? Mines got a more flared bottom and the holes have an angle cut into them.

I used the nomex gasket supplied with the cap and it fits perfectly. I almost always use the dfmt but will use the smokeware in a downpour. I put this gasket on at least a year ago and it still works well.

Yes - this is my older model. My newer one has the slanted slots like you are talking about. As for my gasket being tapered - no it wasn't - must just appear that way to you. As for doing a clean burn with the neck inside that is NOT recommended!

My gasket wore off and I like that I can take mine off easily to do higher temp cooks.   I use the flat cap to help snuff out the fire.   Works pretty well.

Insuring oven cleaner is the best approach. There is a cleaning video on SmokeWare's web site.

Electrolysis cleans the top as if it were brand new.  No scrubbing, no oven cleaner.
