$%^& Rain

Well I got a pork loin going on the medium egg for about 35 minutes and the bottom drops out of the sky. Temp has dropped by 150 degrees and the leaks through the daisy wheel are washing the DizzyPig off. I cranked the air intake up some but this sucks.

Put some foil over the daisy. Open on a side so you still have airflow, but covered to keep rain out.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Rain is why I bought a SmokeWare SS Cap.  No more problems with rain.

I had to improvise that situation a month or so ago. I had an empty 1 gal. paint can that I cut openings in to place over the daisywheel just to keep the cook going. The cold rain lowered the temp slightly, but it was only an afternoon shower going by, so no big deal.

The chances of him getting a smokeware cap in time to finish this cook are fairly slim. =) That's why I suggested the foil. Emergency fix!

I gave up egging if there's even a hint of rain. Used to do it regardless, but no more.

True - but for less money he could dash to a big box store and buy a chimney cap for under$10.

Aluminum foil pup tent installed. This Sunday is Mother's Day . I am leaving this afternoon with a cooked pork loin and the equipment to detail her Ford tomorrow. This loin won't have the beautiful crust the previous several have had. Using DP Game On btw.

    Done so twice.
  • Before I got a Smokeware cap if it was pouring I would set a good umbrella over it.

If it keeps it up you may wanna Anna add some dry charcoal.

I was suggesting it for future cooks.  I had issues with the rain and had to open up the top and bottom vents and it came out ok it was just a hassle and I got up earlier than I wanted too.  Foil should work for a quick fix.

Man they must sell them cheaper where you are.  I looked into getting one and most of the ones I found were about the same price as the Smokeware cap.  I got mine for Christmas and then I bought the flat cap to help with snuffing out the fire.  I haven't used my daisy wheel since I got it and I think it is easier to control the heat with the Cap.

It reached 150 and is off the egg. Maybe not my best but decent looking. Marinaded over night in Stubbs Pork Marinade and a healthy coating of DP Game On added 15 minutes before it hit the grate and recoated twice during the cook.

I have never added more rub during a cook. Just never thought of it but I'm going to try it now that I have heard of others doing it.

I've never done it. I only suggested it because he said the rain washed it off. =)

I bought my chimney cap for about 6 bucks maybe 5-6 years ago. Ace Hardware. They're $9.49 now for a 6" one if anyone else wants to cheap out. They have other sizes too.

I virtually never use it. It fits over my Large's dome opening, but is large enough to fit over the daisy as well. I almost never use the daisy either.
