Pulled Pork

I'm having a party and will be feeding 12 guests.  I wanted to make pulled pork. Can you guys give me an idea of how many pounds I will need?

I think one butt should do it. You can always cook two and vac/seal the leftovers - they're mighty handy to have on hand.

I do one pound precook weight per person, and then I have leftovers.

I agree one big butt would suffice.  But you can get creative with good leftover pulled pork.  I like to freeze it and grub on it for the next month off and on.

One butt will absolutely work, but if your gonna do one butt might as well do two especially if your buy it from Costco (two to a package) .. freeze the extra and or bag some up and give some to your guests.

Ones enough.... but cook two as others said for freezing and use later. I always do two as you use the same amount of lump and your time.....

I always cook more than one at a time regardless.  Otherwise it's like wasting open egg space to me.  Now I have a food saver and that is key.  One whole butt is however all you'll need.  Have fun.

As others have said, you can't have enough butt.  I cook mine on the XL and I have yet to cook anything other than 4 at a time.  Same amount of fuel and leftovers are so tasty.  I usually cook 2 for my family and one for the Sheriff that lives next door and one for gifting someone else.  At the price of butts these days, especially on sale like I found today for $0.99 per pound.

The standard yield for PP is 60% of original weight, +/- a little. Standard sandwich portions top out around 1/3 lb. So, a little more than 1/2 lb, 8 oz to start per sandwich.

How much you cook depends a lot on who is eating. Teen boys may eat 3 sammys.

Also, what sides?  For me, a cup of beans or 'taters and some slaw and sauce on the pork does me fine.
