Started my weekend out with my first attempt at grilled calamari.
Olive oil, salt, pepper & a 650 degree egg. Less than 3 minutes and I was done. Served it with a lemon butter herb sauce. It's fair to say I'll do this again.

I've had breaded/deepfried squid many times, and Squid "steaks" once; never had them "bare-grilled" before, bet they were yummy.
The grid you're using in the first photo, is that the disposable aluminum grids that come 3 to a pack? I saw those in the BX for the first time this week, didn't pick any up.“All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure.”

Those are the ones. I debated using it with high heat but it was just fine.Botch said:I've had breaded/deepfried squid many times, and Squid "steaks" once; never had them "bare-grilled" before, bet they were yummy.

I've had "bare" squid many times in a pasta dish from my local Italian restaurant. It's amazing when not overcooked. This method looks very similar. May have to try one day.

Looks great. Did you prepare the whole squid? I did that once - it's messy business.
Did they turn out soft, not chewy? -
These were just rings & tentacles - no cleaning required. And yes, they were soft. I'll call it beginners luck.TheToast said:Looks great. Did you prepare the whole squid? I did that once - it's messy business.

I'm not a big calamari fan, but the grilled squid looking interesting.
Any road will take you there if you don't know where you're going.

Had fried calamari twice this week. Trick is to not overcook. My calamari cooked (fried) for about 90 seconds.
