I don't know why they rust so bad. My friend, that lives only a few blocks away, has some patio furniture that is powder coated. She said they are over 10 years old and finish is near perfect with no rust. New regulation on paint equal poor quality powder coating? I know zero about powder coating or most paint for that matter. I would pay $100.00 more for good quality stainless bands.

Patio furniture isn't heated to several hundred degrees and cooled over and over. Expansion and contraction at work here. 

I can see where that hold true to the bands but my nest is rusting the exactly the same. Even the lower sections not close to the heat. They are equally rusting like the band. No expansion and contraction except ambient temperature and sun exposure. 

Mine has sat out for twelve years now with no rust. 

I'm happy for you. Things on Galveston Island do rust more than many other areas. Because you have no info in your signature line I have no idea where you live. I know when I lived in Nebraska and Minnesota rust was not a big issue. Except for exposure with salted roads in the winter.

I believe that BGE will be making some changes in the next year or two to the hinges and gasket that they have now.  Those are always a big problem with eggs.  A simple ridge along the base and along the dome to secure the bands better to prevent the dome falling out makes sense.  And a gasket that is usually  roached out in 1 to 1.5 year is poor design.

You just answered your own question. That was my entire point. You live where things rust prematurely. End of story. It's definitely a location issue. The furniture is the anomaly. 

Correct, if you had taken the time to read this thread...that was the first thing I admitted is my climate is prone to rust because of salt air and high humidity. But lots of powder coated items last much longer in town than the process BGE used on the bands and Nest. 
Your logic dictates that EVERY item powder coated is of the same quality. I disagree.

I noticed the comment, that is why I found it funny to continue to vacillate over the obvious.  Sorry to interrupt the stimulating conversation that was going absolutely nowhere except back to the fact that you live in a corrosive environment and some items will prematurely corrode.
