A friend gave me some Mahi and Tuna.
my wife bought me a couple of planks, but I have yet to Egg fish.
I have smoked Tuna on a regular smoker and usually fry Mahi in beer batter.
Should I go direct or indirect with plank, or forgo the plank and slow smoke the filets?

All depends on how you like your fish.
Tuna I like rare. Mahi I liked blackened, especially for fish tacosThank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
I would go raised direct on both. Oil the grates and go hot.
I like mine like @Photo Egg suggested. Blackened mahi (or seared)
Tuna I could cook on hot asphault for 30 seconds on each side and be happy.
Edit: I say raised direct. Mine sits lower than flush with the gasket."Brought to you by bourbon, bacon, and a series of questionable life decisions."

So, you don't recommend using the plank, just raised direct/hot and oiled.
Am going to try slow smoking some of the Tuna, Mahi will blacken/ sear it.
Thanks -
save the plank for some salmon or cook mashed taters on them till they crisp up on top. the tuna you want a hard sear on the exterior and a pink to red interior. dipping sauce....50/50 fish sauce/ lime, cilantro, sugar, soy, and thai peppers
this could hav had a harder sear
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -

You've got some great suggestions above.
Recently, I've taken to giving my fish a hard sear in a cast iron pan. For the first time, I recently scored the skin on salmon, crisped it nicely and ate it. Delicious.
