Need some good poultry shears

I've been using the kitchen shears which came with our knife set for a few years and need some sturdy and sharp primarily to cut through the backbone of poultry for spatchcock. Anyone have one they can recommend?

I don't think the same model of Henckels I have is still made, but this appears to be close. I have used it to spatchcock many chickens with relative ease.

I just bought these:

They seem to do a great job and are attractively priced. -
I have a pair of Wusthof shears, but I stopped using them for spatchcocking when I tried my Wusthof serrated bread knife. Works better than any shears I've tried!! Just saws right through it.
I'm sure any quality serrated knife would work, though I have tried lesser ones that will barely slice bread!!
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

That's a good idea. I can see where it might be easier to use the knife. Especially for me, I'm left handed and the shears are made for right handed people.Carolina Q said:I have a pair of Wusthof shears, but I stopped using them for spatchcocking when I tried my Wusthof serrated bread knife. I like the shears. I have a couple of them. Just make sure they come apart for ease of cleaning thoroughly.

My Henckels are no longer made, but if the new ones are as good as the old ones, they are top notch.

I agree! My Cutco shears came with a set of knives we bought from a neighbor boy his second year at the U of I which was some 25 years ago. Does THAT give some testimonial to the quality of those shears? LOLJohnnyTarheel said:My Cutco shears are fantastic!!
Just so happens that I used them tonight to "splat" a cornish game hen so that I could clean the remaining guts and fat out plus brine the bird over night. Like Pete said if you are using them to cut poultry in particular then being able to separate the shears in to two pieces is a real must to me. There's just some things that I don't trust a dishwasher to clean well and the other is a JACCARD. I'm a "knock-it-down-to-clean-it-right" kind of guy!

Another vote for cutco here. We love ours.

The Shun Taskmasters are bulldozers. Use mine for all kinds of things in the kitchen. They come apart for easy cleaning.BrandonQuad Cities

KnifeSalado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.

I use some cutco poultry shears if I do it myself. If you have a good butcher they can do it for you on a band saw in seconds.

Another vote here for Shun. Their shears cut the back bone out quite easily.

I just use kitchen scissors.

These are the ones I have

Got these awhile back. Regular kitchen shears can't compare these things are just as sharp as my knives and come apart for easy cleaning. And they look good next to my knives. https://www.amazon.com/Tojiro-Pro-Separetable-Kitchen-Shears-FK-843/dp/B002YD96VK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1489339307&sr=8-1&keywords=tojiro+kitchen+shears

These are great; they come apart, and are very easy to clean."Feed me, or feed me to something; I just want to be part of the food chain" Al Bundy

Love the magnetic strip! I have a strip of maple with rare earth magnets embedded in it that does the same thing, but if I was to replace it I would get something like you have. Where did you pick it up?Lit said:Got these awhile back. Regular kitchen shears can't compare these things are just as sharp as my knives and come apart for easy cleaning. I vote for Cutco. I have little hand strength and arthritis, and I've tried the Messermeister poultry shears and the Shun shears (returned them). The Cutco are a world apart. Worth every (MANY) penny to me.
I can't bring myself to saw away on my Wüsthoff bread knife, so I'll never know how that feels.Judy in San Diego
