Thawing pizza dough

Unknown
edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
Can someone tell me the best way to thaw frozen pizza dough. I picked some up at Sam's this weekend and had to wait a long time for the dough to unfreeze. Otherwise not a bad product.

Houndog,[p] In a bowl covered with a towel and placed in a warm spot. Warm NOT hot!![p] I always place my dough bowl on top of the refrigerator or upright freezer.
  • Celtic Wolf,[p]Thanks. I will try it that way. Hopefully it will speed the process some. I got mighty hungry waiting for that dough.

Houndog,[p] Keep in mind that most frozen dough has only gone through the first rising (which is the longest one). It needs to rise for at least 30 minutes to an hour after it thaws anyway. [p] The warmth reactivates the yeast. [p] Superlative food takes time :) It is designed to make you hungry..

    Houndog,
The day before you plan to use it put it in the fridge. Then let it rise when ready to cook inside the micro wave or oven covered with a damo towel.Shape it and put the fixens on.

  • Houndog,[p]The fastest way I have found is to place it in a better quality and slightly larger zip lock plastic bag than the one it was frozen in. Now, remove as much air as you can and zip it. Imerse in a very warm (OK to have it pretty warm as the water will start to cool from the dough) water bath in a large pot. There is a lot more heat transfer from the water than from air and it thaws out very quickly this way. I also massage it a bit as it starts to thaw. The warm water starts the rising process.[p]Gas
