Lodge Dutch Oven - 7QT or 9QT?

I'm usually cooking for 2 adults and 2 kids and I've got a large big green egg. Which Dutch oven size is the way to go? My 4qt is way too small.

If the 9 will fit I would go with that since you already have a smaller one. Kind of like the xlbge and mm combo

I got two double dutch 5qt ones. Meets all my needs and is awesome for diverse setups. I dont know if both will fit in Large bge though....
-
Go biggest that will fit.

Does the 9qt fit?

I have a 7 cooking for two most of the time. Great for pot roast, chili's. A 7 will make 6-8 servings of a chile. Can get a 3-4 pound chuck in a 7 with all the pot roast fixings - 4 -5 servings plus a couple sandwiches.New Albany, Ohio

I have both a 7 and a 9. The 9 hasn't been out of my basement storage in years! BTW will this be strictly for use on your BGE resting on your inverted PS? If so you might want to look at a Lodge Camp style. It has 3 legs cast on the bottom so it warms uniformly plus the bottom layer of food never gets burnt. Granted you can achieve the stand off using 3 ceramic feet, or 3 whatevers, but the Camp style is cool and has a rounded bottom.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I have the 8DO which is a 5qt and I have never wished I had a larger one.XLBGE, LBGE, Charbroil Gas Grill, Weber Q200, Old Weber Kettle, Rectec RT-B380, Yeti 65, Yeti Hopper 20, RTIC 20, RTIC 20 Soft Side - Too many drinkware vessels to mention.
Not quite in Austin, TX City Limits
Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting. The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president. -
I'm looking for one that I can use on both the stove top and in the egg. I've got a little 4qt camper with legs and long stainless handle. While it's. neat looking, I can't cook much for the family with it.RRP said:I have both a 7 and a 9. The 9 hasn't been out of my basement storage in years! I have the older BGE one which I believe is a 7 - I see the one on their site now is a 5, so not sure anymore - It fits nicely on the Large, so I like it.
Lodge makes a nice one which you can use the lid as a skillet, which would be nice as I never used the lid on mine except to keep the contents warm after cooking, sometimes. But I think it only comes as a 5.
Get the biggest you can, it's nice to have space to fry your meat and vegetables before filling up with liquid. A all in one pot meal.
I also bought an enameled coated Dutch Oven for when I make sauces or chili, they go on sale here all the time for around $40.Dave

Does anyone know if a 9QT will fit in a large on the cooking grate?
-
Here are the dimensions:
15.00 x 13.50 x 7.50
The large grate is 18.
So my guess is it would fit the grate but the dome would not close.
Perhaps a math whiz could solve the problem.New Albany, Ohio -
I have this Camp Chef 14" 12qt that I use on the platesetter. Legs provide perfect air gap.The lid can be used as a skillet as well. It works great although I do worry about it's weight.

Also a 5 qt Lodge that has a lid that doubles as a frying pan. And a 7 qt Le Crueset enamaled for anything acidic.LBGE/Weber Kettle/Blackstone 36" Griddle/Turkey Fryer/Induction Burner/Royal Gourmet 24" Griddle/Cuisinart Twin Oaks/Pit Boss Tabletop pellet smoker/Instant Pot
