Take Notes ...

We had a thread awhile back where folks were asking who did and didn't take notes on their cooks. Several members support cooking blogs and their notes are fantastic. I plagiarize their cooks without shame. Others light the fire, throw the protein on and cook until it's time to eat ... notes? ... don't make me laugh.
I wasn't able to cook on the eggs for about four months ... hospital, travel, building new house, etc.. When I fired the eggs up last month, I couldn't remember some of the simplest cooks. I'm old and forgetful; plus I experiment with different temps, different rubs, different glazes, different smoke woods, direct vs indirect, etc, etc.. It was exceptionally helpful to pull out my notes and start right where I left off.
My notes were a life saver ...

Missed your posts. Guess the boss won the house war.

Did Ozzie beat you up and burn your house down? Some kid, huh. Hope the Jeep is ok.

Good seeing you stop by, Tom. I ask Ozzie the other day when you would be joining him picking cactus needles out of your butts and he said something to the effect that he misses raiding your freezer whatever that means.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Word is he's a masochist and is returning to warm pastures and family theft of protein.tarheelmatt said:Well, least you don't have to worry about punk kids stealing your groceries now.

@yokesonyou ... We left Ozzie and our daughter in Arizona back in 2000 when the company transferred me back to Illinois. Gave both kids explicit instructions to "stay" ... we planned on returning when I retired. As you are aware, Ozzie can't follow instructions, so he came wandering back about a year before I retired. No problem there, we'd left him behind before, but he did bring the first grandchild along with him. A boy, born on my wife's birthday, and a spitting image of his father. And, all grandparents know that version two is better than version one! Thus the missus no moving. Now that both kids are in Arizona, it's time.
Freezer raiding ... the new house will be 82.5 miles from Ozzie and the freezer room will have a lock on it. Should cure those past problems.

Seriously, it's great you all will be in closer proximity. The grand kids will benefit greatly. @Ozzie_Isaac will eat a bit better too.Ozzie_Isaac said:

Screw old age....most of us include adult beverage intake during egging.....that alone requires notes!Just bought an Egg? Here is what you get to look forward to now:
Plate Setter, FlameBoss 200, Spider, PSWOO-CI, Additional Rig Shelf for dome cooking, Thermapen, iGrill2, Cast Iron, Blackstone, Cooking Accessories for the Blackstone, Cover for the Egg and the Blackstone, shopping for Rub like a fine wine or IPA, and a new fascination with lump and what brand is the best-all to be debated every Friday Night. Next desires-Joetisceriie, Adjustable Rig, Grillmates, table and more eggs

Your kid is true believer in "it's the thought that counts" gifting.

Welcome back Tom. I take notes. Not so much because I'm forgetful but more so to hone in cooks that are a hit so it can be closely and consistently reproduced. Likewise if it sucks I can change things to make it better.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL

I write recipes in a moleskine notebook. My daughter is grown and wanting to really learn to cook so she watches me make some things. Recently she has noticed I don't always follow my written recipe (we learn from experience, right?). She now takes great delight in annotating and correcting my recipes to match what I actually do. Someday that notebook will be a treasure.Coleman, Texas
Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

Really cool. I wish I was wired that way. Nice job.SciAggie said:I write recipes in a moleskine notebook. My daughter is grown and wanting to really learn to cook so she watches me make some things.
