Anyone have a Fireboard?

Hi

Was wondering if anyone has a Fireboard and was wondering if you have any reviews on it.

https://www.fireboard.com

I'm interested in getting 1.  I have a BGE digiQ already and this fireboard is 150 cheaper then what I paid for the digiQ.

Any thoughts are much appreciated.

I like the website for the fireboard, but it doesn't control the temperature. Doesn't your digiQ do that? I dont one of those either but I have been looking...

Third BGE, another large, May, 2017
Added another griddle (BassPro) December 2017
  • Yes the digiQ has a vent blower which does control the temp.  Issue is I don't really use that to tell you the truth.  I haven't really needed too.  Once I have my vents set the temp stays pretty dead on for me.  If I mess with the vents then I have temp issues.  My problem is having 2 eggs and I don't have something that can monitor both and this Fireboard connects to wifi and has a cloud service.  DigiQ doesn't do that.

I've had mine since late November. It's great.

    Here's a review for you - http://amazingribs.com/bbq_equipment_reviews_ratings/thermometers/fireboard-fbx11

@EggMcMic - it has an auxiliary port that will allow various possibilities in the future. It will be able to control a blower fan in a future firmware update (no ETA for that tho).

I like mine. What HeavyG said. Good things coming in the future. I've got a smoke too that I've yet to open. It may end up being a gift. Just don't need it.

I like the battery pack thats built in. Also can add an external battery to double as well as an outlet charger which comes with.

  • Just one thing to point out, your comparing apples to zucchini... this appears to be a really nice wifi maverick, not a temperature controller. So it doesn't matter how much it cost compared to digiQ or CyberQ.

It does look really cool. But 2 mavericks run ya about $50.

At the moment it is a bit of an "apples to zucchini" comparison. However, the ability to run/control a fan will be occurring soon.

If you compare it to the Smoke it's a more apples to apples. The Smoke needs an accessory WiFi gateway that bumps the total buy-in price to the same as the Fireboard. However, the Fireboard has 6 high quality probes with 6' cables (and cable extenders are available) rather than just the Smoke's two.

I hit the bottle hard one night and bought in to the  Meater. Will probably be ready the same time my 3yo is ready to go college.

Where's that face palm emoji when you need it??

    Soon, soon. :)

Their last update a few weeks ago says they had sent out a batch of the final production version to beta testers so maybe you'll actually get it before your young one starts kindergarten.

I stopped paying attention to the updates a long time ago. Because all the updates kept saying they were testing... but none of them said "Yay! We're shipping them out now!"

Lesson learned. DO NOT sit down at a computer, with your credit card, after you've been pickling your liver for a bit, and start looking for bbq gadgets to buy.

Just my $.02, but for the cost of the fireboard I would just go ahead and get a Flameboss and have the control right away. The only advantage I see with the fireboard is it supports more probes.  I suppose if you think you will use them it might be an advantage.  I have an iGrill with 4 probes and I never use more than 2 (one pit, one temp).  If I am cooking multiple butts I only probe the smaller one and I start checking them all with a thermapen when the smaller one is close to finish temp.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.
