You do not need a DW at all. Have 4 Eggs and ZERO DW's. All control is done from the bottom. I assume they are in the garage somewhere.
I use the ceramic top to cut off the  Egg.
I know you like turbo, curious what the lowest temp you can consistently maintain without anything on top?

  • Nevermind. Commented before reading all the way down the thread. Have you ever experimented just to see how low you can go without a DW?

@Mickey, I still haven't tried a 250° cook without the dfmt. Can you hold a temp that low with just the bottom? Or, since you turbo everything, have you never tried it either?
i absolutely need a daisy wheel.  i don't like to bend down to adjust the lower vent, since mine is sitting on the ground (on a paver). :)
I would have to be on all fours to tune that. Age is a ****.
Can you envision his low vent blow outs?  Before long our friend will elevate his egg.

300 is as low as I have went.  Never needed anything lower.

Daisy wheel all the way. Once seasoned with grease etc, holds adjustment just fine. Have been using same one for 25 years. Need to clean every once in a while, but I can dial a temp to a gnats ass with no problem. No matter what lid, lower vent setting, blower etc., it will always come down to using what you know.

I bought the SW cap..... I won't do it again.

Thing gets filthy.  I also have to clean it with oven cleaner every few weeks or it will stick and make it very hard to open.
I can send you mine. The gap between the two pieces is so large that nothing will clog it up. Granted you can't control the temp with it...
