No. I just read the manual. It says to cook a lower temp because the grates get hot. True?Ewa Beach, Hawaii

Ok, I'll tell you how I use them. When your using the GG's figure it's about 150 degree hotter than your dome temp.
So, for example, if I'm cooking boneless chicken breast, set the dome at 450 which is about 600 GG temp.
Chicken Breast take a total of 16 minutes to cook. 4 minutes, then a quarter turn 4 minutes, then at minute 8 flip it over and repeat.
You can also flip them over and use the smooth side to sear, I often reverse sear tri tip this way.
Remember to oil them up to keep the meat from sticking, after a few cooks you won't have to do that anymore.

Oh sorry, didn't answer your low temp question, I find myself using the GGs in the 450 - 550 range, with 450 being the sweet spot for them. I never go above 600, no reason inparticular ... I just don't.I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

Yeah, you don't want them to get too hot.g37 said:No. I just read the manual. It says to cook a lower temp because the grates get hot. True?
