YB,
The other day, someone posted a question about cooking with a soapstone pot and I went looking to see what they were talking about and then I saw the picture you posted with what looks like a soapstone griddle cooking bacon wrapped scallops.[p]If that's correct, could you offer some comments about your experiences using it? What kinds of things do you use it for and what benefits do you see? I was thinking it must be like having the heat sink of a pizza stone, but for grilling meat, while offering the protection of indirect heat.

    BobS,
You can use the soapstone griddle for cooking just about anything. The main thing about soapstone is it retains heat for a long time. Here is what the site says it's good for.[p]Larry[p]The perfect blend of beauty and functionality.
The gorgeous soapstone griddle is ideal for broiled fish, sizzling meats, fajitas, pancakes, hot or cold hors d’oeuvres, nachos, etc…Can be placed in oven or over open flame or heating element. Features a solid 1” copper band.[p]Known by the Brazilians for Generations
The beauty and versatility of soapstone will astound you as you use it in the oven, stovetop, or grill, and then straight on to the table! Handmade and able to withstand temperatures twice as high as cast iron and other metal cookware, soapstone develops a natural non-stick surface and lustrous black patina finish after curing.[p]Small Soapstone Griddle Measures: 10” diameter

<p />BobS, pretty much does what a pizza stone does except you can put butter, oil, grease, meat and fish on it it it will stay nonstick. it builds up a heavey nonstick coating with time. also serves as an inderect source that i use in the small. it doesnt stay nice and shiney unless you worked at it, it gets a patina quickly

fishlessman,[p]I looked at the vendor mentioned by YB, and could not find any info about how wide the griddle is with the handles?
Am I right that the handles add at least 2" to the diameter. That is, a 10" griddle is 12" from handle to handle.[p]Thanks for any info,[p]gdenby

    fishlessman,
I think your right.I had to bend the handles up just a little to fit in the small egg.It must be just a tad over 13".
