Hi All,
Been following the posts for a few weeks finally got approval to post! Did ribs for my first cook. I should have gone longer but just was adjusting to cooking on my lbge instead of a pellet smoker. Second cook didn chicken legs that were fantastic and finally prime rib for Christmas. Picked up some tips here and couldn't have been happier and was the first cook I felt in control of temp.

Nice. Next time on legs (and turkey legs) do direct / 400to425 / raised. And you don't need the wires.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.

Since was one of first times I read I shouldn't cook that high plus wanted to practice controlling lower tempsMickey said:Nice. Next time on legs (and turkey legs) do direct / 400to425 / raised. And you don't need the wires. -

Old wives tale on the cooking high. Have put on 5 Egg Fest's where the Eggs go from brand new to 700+ (some 1000) in the first few mins. Heat will not hurt your Egg. And it was not just my Fest's, it happens all over the country.
You are correct in holding lower temps is harder and the practice is good.
Don't forget turkey wings are great off the Egg as well.Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd. -

Thanks doing a boston butt this weekend. I always struggled with them on pellets so will be interested to see how I do on this and being a much longer smoke than I have done.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey. Way to jump right in.
Regarding the butt cook, As I'm sure you are aware, the cook temperature profile is quite forgiving so have fun with it.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Welcome. You might want to think about wrapping the plate setter in foil FWIW.

Welcome, the butt is very forgiving and hard to screw up on the BGE. I did my first one about a month after I had mine and it was much easier to do than I thought it would be.
I agree with @DoubleEgger, you might wanna have something on the plate setter to catch drippings, i.e. aluminum foil or a foil pan that can be thrown away. Good luck!1 LBGE. Winder, GA -
Welcome. Starting out with ribs - bold move.
As @DoubleEgger said wrapping your plate setter is a good move. I wish I had done that on my first cook. I've done it since but I wish I had started that way.

Good call on the plate setter i meant to do it but forgot but better late than never!

Also one thing I have been seeing is my dome temp and my thermoworks smoke temp are out of sync and in sync at different times. It really trips me out when they are sometime 25-30 degrees off in either way and other times within a few degrees of eachother.
