Choosing a dutch oven

I'm trying to decide on which dutch oven to purchase for use on my LBGE. I have narrowed my choices down to two lodge dutch ovens, one with legs (8qt) and one without (7qt). Thoughts? Input on legs or no legs? Does everyone place their dutch ovens on the plate setter or on the grate?
Thanks in advance

Between the 2, I'd vote no legs 7gt because there's no advantage to the legs on an egg. Given other choices I'd go 8qt or larger depending on your goals.Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga

I prefer the light hand-sewn patchwork quilt in the summer, down feather comforter in the cold months.______________________________________________I love lamp..

Get the double Dutch oven from Lodge. The top doubles as a skillet. It's great for the egg.

I bought 3 (and the 9 qt). I returned the other two and went with the 7 qt legless.
It fit the best, made the most size sense feeding 4-8 regularly, but wasn't so big that it was not realistic when cooking for just me and my wife.
there will probably be something I want to cook one day and I'll go back and get the 9, but unless you are going camping and going to use it on the ground for coals above and below...I don't see the point of legs. I had a few of those when doing boy scouts but I don't cook like that when camping anymore.
Edit. Cook on the grate. The cast iron absorbs the heat pretty evenly."Brought to you by bourbon, bacon, and a series of questionable life decisions."

This is what I use most on the egg.DoubleEgger said:Get the double Dutch oven from Lodge. The top doubles as a skillet. It's great for the egg.Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga -

This one ^^ is a great recommendation, but it's a 5 quart. I think it's the one to get if it's your only DO, but you were asking about a 7 / 8.
5 quart is the size I use most for general use. 2 quart great for sides, but not used much. 4 quart for bread baking. If I need a 7 quart, it's usually for chili, in which case I prefer to use enamel, due to the acidic tomato base. I think I'd get one without legs for the egg.
Hope that helps.Phoenix -
Enameled Dutch ovens are also great on the egg.Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga

My wife likes the heavy bacon diet Dutch oven

5qt is perfect for everyday cooking and best of all Walmart had it currently priced at $37 dollars.I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to go with the legless 7qt as I will mostly use for chili, pot roast... etc. the double Dutch looks like a good deal, but I really like the bail Handle and I already have several CI pans I inherited.Large BGE

I agree here. I have two of the 5QT DD. Works great on minimax, L and two side by side on XLDoubleEgger said:Get the double Dutch oven from Lodge. The top doubles as a skillet. It's great for the egg.
Stay away from ones with the legs as they can be a pain on a grate....plus flat surface DO on a stone or on grill grate over diect or indirect absorbs heat evenly amd efficiently. Maybe it makes no difference using the DO with legs but i like that total surface contact to heat up the DO... -
