The great scrape?

Is anybody using The Great Scrape (little wooden paddle grate scraper) on the BGE cast iron grates? All the pictures I've seen have had them cleaning stainless grates. My Billy Bar works fine for that. I was wondering if using the paddle on the larger than stainless grate would create such a large scorch groove, that it would be less useful. Im looking for an alternative to using a standard wire brush. My poor wife drives herself crazy thinking she's eating tiny metal wires with every meal.

They work very well

I don't use a "Great Scrape", but just a scrap of wood. Also, I don't push parallel to the bars, but at an angle, so that grooves never form; once you have grooves it "hits" against the cross "bar" and slows you down (I always use my CI grate "flat-side up").

I was gifted one. It sat in the garage for a year. Then I used it. It works grate. Will last probably as long as me. I would recommend it if you come across it for in the $20 range.

Made my own out of scrap wood - should last a long time and when it gets worn down I'll just cut the end off and start over. Should last for many years!

Since I have no woodshop, no wood tools, and no scrap wood, the Grate Scrape os a good deal.RRP said:Made my own out of scrap wood - should last a long time and when it gets worn down I'll just cut the end off and start over. Should last for many years!

I'm a fan of mine. Cleans really well and no wires in your food!

My local Costco had them for a brief run in the spring for $20. I didn't pull the trigger, and once I convinced myself it was a descent buy, they were gone. Came across them again today, so I grabbed one. Thought I'd get a little insight from the pro's before I scorch this thing tonight. Thanks everyone!!Ozzie_Isaac said:I was gifted one. It grooves quick. I use it on both hot and cold grates.miniMAXd said:

Just a piece of cedar. I would have liked to use hard maple, but I didn't have any scrap pieces wide enough.Jeremiah said:What kind of wood is that Ron?Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time
