New vs. Old Dome Question

I purchased my XL BGE last week (Nov 25th 2016) and today I measured the dome height to see if the Woo Setup would fit and I saw a sentence that said if the dome height from grid to chimney is 14" it's the old dome and if it's 16" it's the new dome. Well I just thought mine was 16" because they were talking 2 years ago it was 14" and since been changed. Is this correct? Should I be upset that I have the 14" dome and not the latest 16" dome for the $$ I spent?

    I would bet money that you have the higher dome. I wouldn't think any dealers would still have the low dome(if you bought it new). If that's the xl in your profile pick it sure looks like the higher dome. The low one looks way squattier. Just my opinion. Could be wrong.

    I recently purchased an xl and my dome looks the same as yours. Agree with CoMoBGE.

    Thanks for answering. I did measure 14 1/4 this morning. It wasn't near 16 at all. I also checked it 2 to 3 time as I was surprised. I will repeat it again tomorrow. I put the grid on top on the platesetter normal install. Stuck the tape down the chimney and it was 14 1/4 to 14 1/2. But will post again tomorrow. Thanks

    And yes, the picture is the XL BGE I just purchased. Under the serial number I see 120516 and I take that as 12/05/16 as a date. So that makes me feel better BUT I am pretty sure on the 14 1/4" Stay tuned.

    Ok Maybe I made a mistake reading the instructions:
    Instructions:
    If your grill is new or a couple years old, you should be OK but it would not hurt to confirm  the measurement outlined below:
    • set the XL Big Green Egg® cooking grid on the fire ring and close the dome;
    • slide a tape through the daisy wheel until it hits the grid;
    • take the measurement at the daisy wheel.  The measurement need not be exact, just in the ballpark of either 14", 15" or 16".
    If your measurement is approximately 14" or 15", the Rig can not be used with the XL Woo or ConveGGtor.

    As I read the above I placed my grid on top of my Platesetter NOT the Fire Ring as they mentioned above I think that's where I messed up. I will let you know.

    It's the new if you have a platesetter. The low dome can use the longer legged ps and the stubby ps are nowhere to be found. I have been looking for one for a friend with a low dome xl.

    Yes I agree, I did get a platesetter with it. You'll have to excuse me as I am only 2 weeks experienced with the Egg.  :o

    No problem. Enjoy the learning experience. I've been at it a little over 2 years and my Dad has had his large for 18 years and even he admits that he learns new stuff all the time.
