I must be missing something here, you post a link to a table to help us fellow eggheads who would love a free table, big green egg kills the thread because you posted a link to their competition, and you are so upset you are going to leave all of these friends you have made over the years? Aren't your friends more important to you than that? After all, this site is completely free to you and as most others you have gained a lot of knowledge and some very true friends. I would hope you take a step back before you just turn your back on your friends over someone killing your advertisement to the competition post. It wasn't your dog they killed. Bottom line I hope you make the right. decision for yourself.

It really is that simple @jabam and I have read many threads that have been killed or sunk. This is nothing new, it's been going on since at least 2006 and most likely before that. Again this is a free site with a wealth of knowledge. Most of the knowledgeable people on this site would be gone if they ran off crying if their posts were killed. Fortunately for us they dust it off and move on, continuing to help others and enjoy being with their friends. I highly doubt a few dozen people leaving this site is going to prevent the buffalo from continuing to protect their name to the best of their ability. After all it is completely free to you. Cheers!

it's pretty clear that 'they' don't monitor the site in real time. They infrequently check in, and sometimes are alerted to posts. That's why a post can go days before vanishing

pretty sure the 'table give away' post got nixed as fallout. While the mods were popping in to tank the political stuff, they cruised the front page and axed the post referring to the competition

it's a standard pattern here

w/r/t trade names, any mention of another brand (major national brand) in a context either negative or positive, seems to bring the corporate hammer. Probably sometimes pre-emptively. They don't want to host a thread where a national major brand is discussed, positive or negative. So they nuke it.

Merely mentioning a brand doesn't do it. But it seems to require 'an opinion' in context.

Charcoal gets a pass for obvious reasons

That's the only real pattern. They aren't going to explain rationale because debating it means we have a say, and we don't. It's their sandbox.

But they don't have to explain or even follow consistent rules. It's their place.

And frankly, better for them not to try to enumerate riles or requirements behind buffaloing threads. They don't owe an explanation

Looks like it is only when someone pings them and points out a post, or they stumble on one that one time a week when they remember to check on the patients in the mental asylum

Contollers, lump, CGS accessories, and some others are freely discussed all the time and all have competing BGE products. Why does one table manufacturer get the buffalo and nothing else? Makes no sense.

I come here for new things, new ideas and sharing my own experiences . if this was a BGE only site it would be stale as a cracker.

it maybe sounded like i was outlining their logic. but your mistake is in assuming i implied they had a logic.

i think they are happy to let us discuss incidental products, maybe even competing ones, that facilitate the enjoyment of their product.

again though... the reason that a volatile thread may go for days and then suddenly vanish isn't because it broke a mysterious rule at that particular moment, or they have an auto-detector for brand names, it's probably because 1.) someone reported it to the "report forum abuse" email address (top right of this page), or 2.) some semi-moderator type sat down with their morning (or afternoon, i suppose) coffee and realized "oh hey, i haven't checked the idiots in the forum for a few days, better make sure they aren't getting out of hand..."

and then when they do check in, threads vanish in groups.

which makes people think it is ok to bash trump/clinton for three days, but if you post a pic of joe biden eating an icer cream cone, then that must be the dealbreaker.

when in reality it is that they don't monitor this place 24/7

Well said stike. When I said 2006 I was referring to the green egg website in general and not necessarily this one. I have read many old threads and have read about them being zapped long before 99% of the people on this site including myself were even thinking about egging.

On a separate note, is there any question that you have answered less than 100 times in your many years here? It's unbelievable how many newbys you have helped over the years. When looking at old posts (+\- 2012) you, fishless, Little Steven, third eye, Fidel, Humphrey (<also you I believe) and a few others were always the first ones to offer up great advise time after time no matter how many times the questions were answered. Truly legends in the BGE world. I have learned so much from everyone on this forum and a lot who are no longer here. Thanks!
