Spacers under drip pan

I tried something new with my drip pan yesterday and it worked really well. I put some 1/4" thick ceramic tile (2" squares) between the plate setter and the drip pan to create some air space. I was trying to get the apple juice/water mixture to last longer on a low & slow before it all evaporated. It worked great. I had to open it up to add a small brisket at about the 16 hour mark and there was still plenty of juice and drippings. Everytime before that, It would have been all boiled out.

Slap-Yo-Mama, thanks for posting a good tip.

Slap-Yo-Mama,

little copper plumbing elbows do the same and will even be less surface contact than your tile pieces. Thank Madd Max for that hint.

Slap-Yo-Mama,[p]I use small sections of angle iron, inverted. They are very stable. Not only do they work well under the drip pan when the legs are up, but I use them under casserole dishes too when I cook with the legs down.[p]~thirdeye~

RRP,[p]My version is lower tech but works fine- I roll up pieces of foil as needed to make "snakes" to support the drip pan.[p]hth[p]Big T
