OT - Oysters on the campfire...

Had a pretty hectic week thus far but redeemed a busy day with an enjoyable evening...
First, I had this fine crowler (like a growler, but in a can) of a local Belgian Dubble to enjoy. Delicious.
Next, I stopped by Harris Teeter and they had oysters for .50 each. I got a couple dozen.
Third... dry wood, 50 degree air, and a great night to be outside. My 8 year joined me to roast a few marshmallows....okay, a dozen. He eats marshmallows like I eat oysters.
.

.
I just love oysters this time of year. The prices drop significantly and they are plump and delicious! When I say prices drop, I say any place except Wegmans... That place just burns me up. They routinely charge $2 to $2.50 per oyster, for all varieties. Doesn't matter if they are local or not. I don't like to pay that much in a restaurant when they are shucked and served with sauces over ice. But paying that much in the shell is ridiculous. And they offer no bulk discounts on dozens, boxes or bushels. Can't tell you how many times I walk away from their seafood and steak cases with nothing, discouraged by the prices.
But enough of that place... OYSTERS!

Roasted!

They were also delicious raw...

.
.
And on an unrelated note, here is a picture Australian Olympic hurdler Michelle Jenneke posted of herself yesterday chilling on the Gold Coast. They have oysters there, right? I'm calling it ON TOPIC!

Agree on the oysters. I was down at Edisto (SC) this past weekend and we were gonna pick up some local oysters. Locals said they were very muddy due to Hurricane Matthew. We passed on them....yours look most entertaining....including the final picture.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

Yeah, as you noted the taste and quality of the little buggers changes rapidly with the water conditions. Buy them after days of heavy rain they are going to be on the mild side. That's the bonus of buying local oysters, you know how the weather has been and what you are more likely to get.northGAcock said:...I was down at Edisto (SC) this past weekend and we were gonna pick up some local oysters. A good market will let me taste a few varieties before purchase, but most places don't have more than one or two to choose from. It's expensive to ship rocks, I guess.
