It depends how much of that money they invested is theirs, I'm sure the bulk of it came from their investors through a fund.  They're still going to be stinking rich...and then want more.

I think they missed the window for an IPO...I think sales are going to slide over the next 5 years due to competition. Their tumbler sales had to fall greatly with Ozark coming in at a 3rd of the price. I would have never paid close for 400 bucks for a ice chest, but my wife bought it for my birthday. If I knew how over rated it was, I would have returned it and bought a cheaper (and bigger capacity) rotomolded cooler. I believe the future of the ice chest will be in the form of a soft sided model. Once engineers are able to use materials that are much lighter but carry the same insulation properties as a 25 lb cooler (unloaded), the hard sided chest will become a purchase of a few individuals which have a requirement of a hard sided ice chest.

Will be interesting to see if their IPO price meets their expectations.

The WSJ had an article about this a couple days ago. One thing that stuck out for me was this:

"It has since expanded into soft coolers and other products such as drinkware, which now account for 62% of its sales."

Was surprised to see that the products that they were originally known for don't even make up a majority of their sales anymore. Their drinkware is no different than the $10 versions available form many vendors and they now are copying RTIC in offering a soft cooler that has a "normal" flip up lid.

I think the Yeti fad will soon fade. The same article also stated:

"In Yeti’s case, the risk for potential investors—including Cortec, which will continue to own a majority of the company after the IPO—is that sort of popularity can be fickle."

I'm guessing the Yeti name will continue to have status amongst some folks but I can't imagine their brand continuing to expand like it has in the past year or two.

The article mentioned some of their other competitors such as Igloo starting to offer similar products but I was surprised the article didn't mention RTIC. If there was ever a competitor that was aiming directly at Yeti it would obviously be RTIC.
