Grill in a screened in porch?

Any body tried grilling in a screened in porch? I figure the smoke won't flow out very easy but thought I'd ask.

  • I probably wouldn't do it. I am sure some here have.

If that's the only option, then go for it and then you can decide future adventures.  Easy to say as it's not my porch and I have not personally done it but I can't think of any downsides.    FWIW-
Edit:  once you get the smoke burning clean you won't be generating that much visible smoke to address during the cook duration.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

oh yeah, for years.  Depending on how the screen room is set up, no problems with the smoke.  I keep mine in a nest. If the wind is blowing towards the house, I try to move her around a bit.

Here's the problem as I see it, does the screened porch lead to the main part of the house?, if it does then you can plan on having the carpets, drapes and any furniture smelling like flavored smoke. Myself, I don't care for flavored smoke on my furniture, but that's just me. Best.

Been doing it for years and it's not been a problem.  This is a large patio though (screen cage with a pool).  I'd say as long as you're not right next to the door and the ceiling is high enough that you won't burn the screening, you'll be fine.

Have been for years. Ceiling little discolored. Porch off laundry room. Laundry room sometimes smells like smoke

use a suspended box fan to redirect the smoke away from the house - easy fix.

edit:  I once used this method in my garage - major downpour or some such thing.  Had the Egg as close to the open door as possible and suspended a box fan to keep the smoke headed in the right direction. I  **HIGHLY** do NOT recommend this method.
  • Depends on the air flow in your porch. I've used my BGE for years in a screened in gazebo. Of course, that's open to all sides, so I never really thought about it. If you normally have some breeze, it should be a no-brainer. Otherwise, I think onedbguru has the right idea.

If you're designing a screened in porch with an egg in it, I'd get a kitchen fan/hood set up to move the smoke.
