Hey guys. I just aquired this Egg and it has been in the family since it was bought new in Atlanta. I don't really know the exact age but it's in decent shape. My only main concern is a small hairline crack in the body. If any of you guys can provide any more info about it it would be great.

Cool Egg. Looks like it could be the first one ever made. Lifetime warranty. I fear a free replacement base would not match.Large, Medium, MiniMax, 36" Blackstone

Yes, I am very familiar with this egg/kamado. My Uncle Steve has one that is identical in appearance. This one appears to be a very early version that was actually brought over from Japan after WW2. I only know because My Uncle brought his over.
Since it does have a hairline fracture, I recommend ONLY low temp cooks as high heat will make this clay version separate rapidly.
This is an awesome find! I am so envious!I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca. -
I am curious if there is any writing on the metal top? Is it actually a BGE? It sure looks like my Dad's Japan import Imperial Kamado. This one has been in the family since about 1970 or so. My understanding is the owner of BGE imported Kamados for a few years before starting to manufacture BGE.>

This is the only thing printed on it. I am only using it as a smoker to keep it in nice shape. -
It was purchased as a BGE in Atlanta. Not sure exact age but it's been in the family longer than I have.

I spoke to a lady yesterday that gave her husbands away wen he passed. He brought it home from Japan. She said she regretted giving it away. She hasn't had a steak as good as the ones her husband cooked.LBGE
