Nice!  I've had good luck at Fareway where they run similar sales, and let me buy 10 at once.  Or you can ask the meat counter for 2 two packs in cryo. ;)
Luck of the draw my friend.  Good luck on your ace sir.  :)

Never cooked one from there.  Comparable to the one's from Krogers?

Yes - BTW I just picked up 4 this afternoon and took them to my b-i-l for freezing until I need them next week. Going back for 4 more tomorrow to store here at home. The only difference is these are butts and not shoulders so they are a bit more fatty, but more tasty.

The ones I have gotten from them in the past are top notch.  All natural, unenhanced, bone in.  Good for the price.  Stock up!

I was looking only at the 8 pounders or above and I had about 10 that size to then do a more thorough inspection thereof. As I said before these are butts not shoulders so the fat content is higher. I have no issue in trimming the excessive exterior fat at $.89 a pound so I was inspecting the telltale bone cut side for interior fat veins.

As for Kroger vs Schnucks I actually find Schnucks meats better across the board than the much larger Kroger chain. Besides that with Schnucks building a new multi-million dollar facility about a mile from us which will be finished in a couple months I highly doubt they plan to p*ss off their existing customer base like myself who will drive by a mega-Kroger store and popular Hy-Vee grocery to get to that original Schnucks.

Tomorrow I go back for 4 more butts!

Farmland brand.  Different than what I've gotten before, but look damn good to me for 15 bucks.

Gates' Original sauce was 2 for 5.  Should create some at work smiles.  That'll do pig.....that'll do.

  • Glad I saw this post- saw Fareway was 1.39 and was headed there tomorrow.  Have a Schnucks 2 minutes away but have not bought any meat there yet.  Guess that ad will have to get looked at on Wednesdays !

Schnucks is out of stl. You'll never find better pork butt deals. And the meats pretty good

Yep, Schnuck's is the reason for St Louis pork steaks.  In the add they let you know they cut to preferred size.  Maull's and Bud, another favorite grill cook.

  • Just picked up two for this weekend. They look really good. Going to hit another two stores close to home with the cooler and throw those four in the freezer. There was a guy in Schnucks doing the same thing I was a couple of hours ago. He couldn't believe the price either.  =)

  • @Focker where did you find a 17 butt? The largest ones I found were around 9, most around 6 lb.

It's a 2 pack. If they don't have the 2 packs in the case just ask one of the butchers and they can get you one.
  • I just picked up 4.  If having a freezer full of butts is wrong, I don't want to be right.
Wisconsin, lbge, MM, kab, pig tail flippers, bear claws, and more rubs than I will admit to.

Picked up 2 more today and the gal watching over the 6 self check out kiosks commented those butts were just flying out of the store today!

I have 6 in the freezer now for next week end's picnic and will go back Saturday as I really need 2 more! Don't want to be a piggy with the piggies!  =)

Sweet Ron.  I still need 4 more, then I'm done.  I have to save possible ground deer space.  Oct 1st is right around the corner.

I know it's not much of a savings over the current deal but Schnucks runs them for .79 lb one time a year. I'm glad you are to buy more than 1 two pack at a time(the ad says limit 2). My Schnucks is a stickler on that so I have to go multiple days.

At least up here they are single butts in a package - not 2 butts.

Ok, I see.  I always thought the "picnic" and "butt" made up the whole shoulder.  I see what you are referring to now.  Thank you.

Go to the counter, ask for 2 in cryo if you don't plan on smoking them soon.

In Columbia they consider the cryovaved pack as 2 and will only let you buy 1 cryovaved pack at a time. In the end it doesn't matter to me since its on my way home from work.
