I was making pancakes for the kiddo this morning and when I do I usually double up the recipe and just freeze a bunch of small ones for her. It took me forever on my little plug in flat cooker and finally looked at my wife and said, "I'm getting a blackstone this fall when my new deck is built."
I just posted that the Blackstone 17inch Table Top is on sale at BJs Club for $79.99.  Why wait til the fall?  Get this one now and the bigger one when your new deck is built and you find the 36" on sale.

Saw that you mentioned that BJ's has the 17" on sale. Didn't see that on their website but they did list a Blackstone grill I hadn't seen before - https://www.blackstoneproducts.com/product/the-dash/

My store has those available on sale for $69. The top cook plate is reversible - smooth or ridged.

Might have to pop into my store and check those out.

There are a lot of things in my life that I regret.  Purchasing the Blackstone is most definitely not one of them.

with the regular version it has the sides that let you bank up foods like corned beef hash, potato hash, onions etc, its kind of nice to be able to do that and cook on areas where its hotter, the left and right edges are a little cooler

@Fishlessman, I don't know much about gas appliances and BTU output. I see the Blackstone 17 has a single 12,000 BTU burner while their 36" flattop has three 15,000 BTU burners. I assume the 12K is more than enough to do a good smashburger or sear a steak properly, but just thought I'd ask.

Also, how thick is the steel plate cooking surface? I know your's warped and you got a replacement. Did it warp too or is it still in the box? =)

    Thanks!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Q....I think your assumption is correct. I will say that on a windy day, I wish my 17 had the 15,000 as it impacts that heat on the surface. That said, I seldom have that be a problem.

its still in the box, saving it for pancakes and such. lower btu's but thinner plate 3/16 compared to 1/4 inch on the larger models. my warped one still works fine for burgers, dogs, cheese sandwiches, sausages, bacon, etc. works well just for toasting buns while cooking burgers on the grill as well. going to try that big stainless box i made for steaming corn, lobsters, clams as well so i dont have to drag out the big burner and tank, it looks like i can take off the griddle and mount the big rectangular pot on top. i do need to get a hose and mount a 20 pound pig to it, the green bottles dont last long but can be convenient. its plenty for smash burgers, press them on dry, they stick right down, and the heavey sharpened spatula is needed to scrap them off. going to do those pancakes this weekend before the birds and neighbors eat all the blueberries

Thanks, guys. From the looks of it, you could replace the stock top with lots of things, from a 1/4" plate to a turkey fryer pot. Low country boil anyone?

Come to think of it, I have an old 2-burner Coleman stove from our family camping days years ago. Out in the garage somewhere. The big green ones with the lid and side screens. Originally took Coleman gasoline, but I bought the propane converter (for 1-pound canisters). Wonder if it still works. I don't recall it going thru too much propane, but it's been a long time.

    Off to the garage...

i use an old gas 2 burner 1950's camp chef? i dont think it gets as hot, but where you will miss out is not having the sides on the griddle, the square spatula fits tight in there, makes it easy to push and flip hash, fried rice etc.

you could also make a woodstove griddle like mine =)

I hear ya. My SIL, the vet, bought me one of these...

"Easy-Walk" brand. Not perfect, but it works reasonably well.

    Sorry for the hijack.

fortunately its only 1/8 mile to a wooded walking path, then he gets his 5 miles in =) at camp i just let him go, its pretty much dog friendly. watch for the blackstone sales, mine was 50 dollars free delivery off amazon last year. a smash burger is a minute away at camp, roll up some 2 inch balls and bag small qty and freeze, put a bag in fridge to thaw every friday and its just a matter of turning on bs, retrieving burger from fridge, 60 seconds and a paperplate and your eating. 15 seconds longer if you want cheese with a splash of water and a pot cover placed over it =)   that may have been a reason mine warped

I just cranked up the compressor and tried to blow the cobwebs out of the Coleman. I can hear it, but it won't light. Dunno where the gas is going, but it's not coming out of the burner. Thing has to be from the mid 70s anyway. Not worth any more effort.

I may pick up one of the $80 Blackstones. An Ace sorta near me has 'em in stock. For a quick sear, my current choices are stovetop and a smoky house or firing up a grill. This would be so much quicker!
