First Prime Rib

At 11am this morning my lovely wife informed me that she had invited her parents over for dinner. I had been thinking about doing a prime rib for the past few months, and figured that this was the perfect chance to try one. I kept the seasonings very basic, just salt and pepper after a coat of olive oil. Cooked it indirect at 250° until it reached 123°. While it was resting I jacked the egg upper to 500°. I seared both sides for 10 mins each and both ends for 5 mins. This is the best thing I have had off an egg!

Your experience sounds very similar to mine. Although I didn't sear mine near as long. Congrats on the cook and looks great. I'm a huge fan of reverse sear for large cuts like this.

Whoa -- that looks AMAZING!!! Great job!

My wife and her mother like theirs closers to medium-well so I needed more time to get the IT up to around 140° on the small end. If it was just for her father and I, 10 mins would have been the total sear time.feef706 said:Your experience sounds very similar to mine. Although I didn't sear mine near as long.
