Rotisserie for BGE XL

Being a big fan of rotisserie cooking, I really wanted to use my Egg for these cooks. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find a rotisserie kit (ex. Joetisserie) for my XL.  So I decided to make my own kit. I picked up a universal kit from Home Depot for $50 and made some modifications to the spit rod and the motor mounting bracket.  I made no modifications to the Egg. To my surprise, this setup worked awesome! The seal was tight and the temperature was stable through the entire cook.

Here are few picks of my setup and of the Cornish hens.

In order to close the dome, it looks like you had to notch the base of the egg as well as reduce the diameter of the spit. No?

I tried it on my large, but never figured out how to close the dome or otherwise seal up the gap in an acceptable manner. Everything I tried looked like Macgyver had been here. And I wound up with soot all over the dome.

So, when I use mine (BTW only $30 at Lowes =)), I just do it on my old weber without the lid.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

  • I just reduced the diameter of the spit. I didn't notch the base of the egg. I placed a piece of old gasket under the spit rod to protect the main gasket.
